Sodas are a bitch. Some of the most worthless calories you can ingest so beating those will be a huge step.
Muscle gains are good as they raise your basal metabolism rate. A 200 pound person with 10% body fat will burn many more calories than a 200 pound person with 30% body fat.
Keep it up. It is a lifestyle change and your wife and daughter will appreciate having you as Slender Steve now and for many years to come.
