I do and I accept full responsibility with no exuses.
Congrats on your success sir. Only someone who had been there can appreciate how hard it was for you to do that. Keep up the good work.
I feel bad for you honestly and even worse for your patients you deal with, but sadly, I can see where your job would wear on any sort of compassion you may have had at one time. Seeing what people do to themselves on a regular basis and give you nothing but exuses, wishing to be medicated rather than putting in the work, would aggrivate anyone over time I suppose. I will tell you from experience though, being looked down upon or berated doesn't help at all, in fact it only makes it worse. Being overweight is a downward spiral, it's anger pointed inwards. It's very hard to pull yourself out of a dark place when you have people with a complete lack of compassion making it harder on you.
Very well said Adam.
It's interesting to see your take on it. You've been berating me for years, taking every cheap shot available to you and never once have you stopped to ask yourself or me if it bothered me or not. And now I see why.
All that being said, I'm an overweight person. Eight months ago I hit my darkest personal place tipping the scale at over 305lbs and I'm only 5'8 or so. Since then I have lost over 50lbs and still working hard at it. In September, I had a bad injury snapping my ACL in my right knee. Before, I would have let this be an exuse to just let myself slide into old habits. Not this time, I'm fighting back, it might have slowed me down a little bit, but I'll be damned if I would let it stop me.
The thing is, it's not because of all you people with the schoolyard name calling, or what anyone else may think. My motivation came from my family, my wife and little 2 year old girl that I want to be here on this earth for.
Motivation, there's the keyword on all of this. Alot of people, just don't have it. I've been there, when you lack it, it's impossible to make a lifestyle change until a person finds something that truly does it for them. I'm not perfect, I slip and slack sometimes, but to make an honest change is a marathon, not a sprint. Until a person is ready to make an honest change with legit motivation, they will continue to yo-yo diet.
It's true, I am fat. I'm still human, I have feelings like you skinny people do. I'm working hard at making the change, but I didn't get like this overnight and it won't come off that way either.
There isn't one skinny person in this thread who can come to the gym with me and make it through my workouts. I'll throw that challenge to anyone of you, especially you Dr.Dave, you come and train with me to see if you can last or not. You can't call me lazy if you can't do it yourself.
I will reach my goal of 215lbs and getting fit and happy with myself in 2011. I will not ever make fun or look down on another overweight person though. They are already suffering enough, they don't need me to add to it. By all means, help them if you can, some don't honestly know they can be helped, others plain just don't give a damn, that is true.
I take full responsibility for my current condition, it's my fault and no one elses. Now it's up to me to do something about it and not make exuses, but make changes.

EDIT: This is from 2003. Go to page 5 and it breaks it down in the form of a pie-graph...ironically...and then a short list which substance abuse isn't even on. Heart problems and hardening of arteries both are though.

Because this makes me laugh. I don't care if you starve yourself to Gandhi levels!
Now if you really must know, I've also listened to you for years tell me how you're going to start this diet or doing this cardio and changing this aspect of your lifestyle that is going to improve your health. For years you never did anything, and I ribbed you for it. Don't shoot the messenger; you knew you had a discipline problem with your health and finally addressed it. Man, you addressed it solid too! I am glad to see that you've grabbed it by the reins and are staying on track. I've already given you a lot of heartfelt praise for it.
Don't call me to the floor for being insensitive on your lack of indecision when you yourself admit in the same breath that, "yeah, it took a long time for me to finally stop quitting on myself".Originally posted by PGreenCobraI can't get over the fact that you get to go live the rest of your life, knowing that someone made a Halloween costume out of you. You can accuse me of being shallow or casting stones, i don't give three fucks. It may be callous, cold, rude, or downright hateful, but i'm not going to sugar coat things so that your cellulose ridden feelings don't get hurt. The bottom line is we were asked if we treat fat people differently. Yup, I do. Should I have lied so your feelings could remain intact?
