New Yorkers can either get off their rears and vote Bloomberg out or take their medicine and do as they're told.

At Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s press conference touting his efforts to stop the sale of large soft drinks in restaurants, one reporter in attendance brought up the interesting fact that his administration also supporting “National Donut Day” tomorrow and inquired as to whether that muddled the mayor’s message on the issue.

Indeed, at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, Entenmann’s will be unveiling “Custom-made Entenmann’s large donuts, 1-foot in diameter” at Madison Square Park at the same time they unveil a “Proclamation Letter by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.”

“The work of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reflects the mayor’s public health agenda,” Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs said about the possible donut conflict. “The message is that we will do what we need in our official capacity to protect the health of New Yorkers.”

“The celebratory events, the naming days in honor of individuals or items, or frivolities that are fun and [bring] exceptional joy are quite distinct from a public health agenda,” she added.

I always hate going to resturants with small glasses. It usually takes an act of congress to get a refill. Let NYC and California ban everything they want, as long as I don't have to deal with it.

Protect? From what? There isn't some conspiracy that businesses are trying to make America fat. This is just nuts in so many ways.

It is sort of like saying oh look, your giant burger and fries exceeds the 2,000 calorie limit so now you are forced to drink a diet coke to prevent you from exploding. It's fucking ridiculous..

A bunch of fucking sheep that sit there and take the smoking ban and soft drink limitation right up the ass... those pussies are getting what they deserve. Rastus don't give 2 fucks about a firearms ban and robs the shit out of anyone with loose cash, only law abiding citizens do. They've allowed insane firearms bans for years... which is a constitutionally protected right. I'm not surprised that the NYC populous would roll over like a swollen Walrus and accept anal penetration from their elected officials.

... as an aside, fat soda swilling leeches make me sick.

Health care costs are a big topic here, and I believe studies have concluded that a major reduction in sugar usage could alleviate quite a bit of cost on the heath care side. My old roommate is in Health IT and knows more about this. Government mandate 'you shall drink less sugar', ya not so cool, but lets say the ban was implemented and the impact was highly measurable on the health side, perhaps a decent strategy. I'm convinced that there is no way to make some one live healthy, unless you can make it cost less or taste just as good.

^that's why i am torn on the issue

they are trying to get people healthier(we all know america needs it) but of course making laws and such are gonna piss a lot of people off. maybe it's one of those things people are just pissed off at cause it's a change and different. i'm sure a lot of people said the same thing about smoking when people started saying it was unhealthy...

and before anyone starts, i will have a smoke or two if i'm out drinking. i know it's not healthy but i still do it

The reason why they are putting this in effect is due to the health care cost that the government has to cover for its citizens. To me this is a no brainer...don't cover health care for every schmuck. It's the same thing as emissions, the cleaner the air the healthier the person. How bout you stay out of our lives and let us do what we want, and if we want to get diabetes then let us, but don't pay for our treatment.

Easy fix on this one, don't go to a nanny state like Comneyfornia or New York. If you live there you are already used to getting raped by taxes.

You guys realize the fatties will still go to the store and buy two liters and soda by the case right? This will accomplish nothing.

If they really wanted to do anything they would ban high fructose corn syrup & change the subsidies, not limit what size a restaurant can sell.

That being said, it is pretty ludicrous the size of some of those drinks.
