Oddly enough, same here. They were giving them away to employees at work one year (1996), and less that a month later I got sick as a dog with the flu, that was the last year that I got one

I only got the flu shot because I had to. Hospital employees either take the flu shot or wear a mask all day at work for 6 months

I'll bet you were vaccinated as a child. Odd are, everyone in this thread was vaccinated as a child.

Who here is a grown adult and has proven medical complications due to being vaccinated?

I was vaccinated as a child and I hate pretty much everyone... can we call that a medical complication?

oh, and I don't get vaccinated as an adult, but somehow I seem to go every year without getting the flu

Exactly. I was vaccinated with a "cocktail" of crap that had me bedridden for a week.

Out of my friends and acquaintances, the only ones that get sick are those that get the flu shot.

I understand giving it to those that have a weakened immune system(i.e. the elderly), but I see no reason for me to get it.

I think I've gotten flu shot twice that I can remember. Once years ago, which didn't make me sick, and once 5 weeks ago, which also didn't make me sick. The only reason I got one this year was for my 11 week old son. I'm around different people all day, every day and if a little shot is going to greatly reduce my chances of getting him sick, then so be it. I'm sure any caring, intelligent parent would do the same. I really don't see what the big deal is with people who freak the fuck out over vaccinations.

The flu vaccine is basically a crap shoot. "They" have to predict a year in advance what "they" thing the next 3 flu's will be.
Each year the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization, and vaccine manufacturers try to predict which strains are most likely to cause flu epidemics for the next year, and then produce vaccines tailored to those strains. Because of the constant change in the flu virus, the vaccine needs to be changed each year to protect against the flu strains that are expected to be responsible for that year's flu infections -- and you need to get the new vaccine each year to be protected against that year's expected strains. The flu vaccine for a given season usually contains antigens from three different strains, two A strains and one B strain.

Guess work was wrong in 2008:
February 11, 2008 — As the U.S. flu season soars, the CDC says this year's flu vaccine doesn't match two of the three main types of flu bugs now in circulation.
                          ...
But there's an ominous finding coming from flu surveillance labs. The predominant type A flu virus this year is the H3N2 strain; 87% are the "Brisbane" strain. And 93% of this year's type B flu bugs are from the "Yamagata" lineage.

The current flu vaccine's H3N2 component is the "Wisconsin" strain; the type B component is from the "Victoria" lineage. That means reduced protection against the Brisbane and Yamagata bugs. Last year, when the Brisbane strain was predominant in Europe, the "Wisconsin" vaccine was only 52% protective against infection.
                          ...
Vaccination is still beneficial, although protection may not be optimal, flu expert said.

From my personal research, you're just as well to not get the vaccine, and if you do get the flu, you'll be immunized permanently for that strain (your body's immune system). Where as you'll still need the shot no matter what if you take the vaccine.

I've never taken the vaccine, even as a kid and I've gotten the flu twice. Once in the 8th grade and once in 2004.

It is a crap shoot. I got the shot back in Oct. and two weeks ago I was sicker than I've ever been with the Flu. Never will I allow a flu shot to be given to me again.

This is true, but you are still building up a immune system for years to come.

I have gotten the flu vaccine for the past 5-6 years only because it's given out gratis at work to anyone there who wants it. It's been probably 25 years or more since I had flu, so if/when I do come down with it I am sure I'll know it. Also, I look at the distrust of flu vaccines this way - I haven't ever had tetanus either but that doesn't stop me from getting vaccinated against it.
