You are now admitting you'd rather play the odds in trying to be the lone hero with complete disregard to the victim. Thing is, with the condition the guy was in, would have overpowered you no problem. How dumb would you feel once this guy pinned you down and started chewing on your face before you'd opt to use deadly force? How dumb would you feel once this guy overpowered you, took any means of you defending yourself away from you while chewing on your face and neck? How dumb would you feel if you survived this and then had to answer to the family as to why you did not eliminate what was a very potential deadly threat as soon as you arrived on scene?
