He said extra, I was thinking he was saying he had 3 when he was born.

I would probably be dead. I had to have a colon resection in 2002 due to it almost perforating from to chronic diverticulitis. As soon as it perforates you become septic and can die if not treated soon.

Nah. A kidney is a redundant system, so having two is sort of like having an extra in case you have a problem with your primary.

How do you feel? Any changes since then? I've always wondered if life goes on completely normal, or if you do have some residual effects.

Get a weird little pang down there once in awhile, sometimes coinciding with a weather change, but not often. I piss a lot but I've pretty much always got something to drink by my side, so I did before the transplant anyway. August will make 8 years. She is still going like a champ.

Tali is correct, I had the tube from the kidney to the bladder kinked somehow as a child and it backed up with waste and killed the kidney. I had surgery to remove my right kidney and I function fine. I can go longer between bathroom visits when I'm drinking beer too, it's like I'm part superhero!

That's good to hear. Must have been quite an experience.

I'm aware of living with one kidney, I was just confused by the extra comment, incorrectly assuming he still had the pair.

                          <---Dead at 14 from a ruptured appendix

Had to spend 10 days in the hospital, but that is better than kicking the bucket. On the bright side I wouldn't have broke my leg 18.....

When I was born, my blood wouldn't hold oxygen and I spent a lot of time in whatever the newborn ICU is. My family were repeatedly told that I wouldnt' make it the hour, then the night and so forth.

Technically, I died when I was 18 months old, as they lost my heartbeat for approximately five minutes. I was fighting spinal meningitis, which my real dad had brought back from Nam.

                              Fuck that guy.

Let me rephrase, somewhere there are pictures and if I had them readily available, they would have been posted.
