The Cheapest Ways to Get Rid of Algae in a Swimming Pool
By J. Lang Wood, eHow Contributor , last updated September 17, 2011
You can keep your pool clear of algae without a paying a lot of money.
Any swimming pool can develop an algae problem. Algae spores can be blown into your pool from wind or rain and begin to grow on wall and floor surfaces, presenting a stubborn problem that can discolor the water and create unhealthy swimming conditions. However, you can avoid purchasing expensive algae-killing chemicals if you aggressively utilize some basic and cheap methods to get rid of algae. Does this Spark an idea?
About Swimming Pool Algae
Algae are microscopic organisms found in many environments. Algae needs certain conditions to grow in swimming pools. These conditions include sunlight, warm temperatures and pool water that is out of balance and contains nitrates and carbon dioxide, according to the PoolCenter website. Algae growth can cause discoloration of the pool water, odor and patches of growth on the pool surfaces. Several different kinds of algae can be found in swimming pools, including green algae, yellow algae, black algae and pink algae, which is actually a bacteria.
Controlling Algae Problems
If you detect algae growth in your swimming pool, you must take aggressive action to control the growth to prevent unsanitary water conditions that could affect the health of swimmers. Because algae tends to grown in pools in which the water chemistry is out of balance, you must use a test kit to determine what chemicals the pool needs. Re-balancing the water chemistry and other standard treatment will help to remove the algae from the water and bring your swimming pool back into usable condition.
Chlorine
The most important step in returning your swimming pool water to a balanced state is to test the water regularly and add pool chemicals as needed. Swimming pools should be kept in a pH range of 7.0 to 7.6, according to the HavuzPoolWizard site. First test the water to determine the current pH value. Gradually add sodium carbonate to raise the pH number. Add muriatic acid to lower the pH number. When algae growth appears, “shock” the pool water by adding 10 times the amount of chlorine you normally use.
Scrubbing
You must scrub the algae from the pool walls and floors to loosen it so that the filtering system can remove the algae from the water. Green algae loosens easily, so a nylon brush is sufficient. Black and yellow algae, however, has a tough outer shell that must be broken before it will release from its hold on the pool walls and floor, so you must use a tougher, stainless steel brush. Generally, it takes more than one vigorous scrubbing to loosen all the algae from the pool. Continue scrubbing until the water appears clear and clean.
Filtering
After scrubbing the algae from the walls of the pool, run the filtering system for 24 hours to allow it to remove the algae spores from the water. Continue running the filter as long as the water appears discolored or cloudy. When the water is clean, return the system to its normal cleaning cycle.

The bottom line here is that you made that whole exchange up, and I am praying right now that Dville can find those pms to show the whole board what a liar you are. Literally have my fingers crossed.
And bits of the whole three pm exchange are slowly coming back, now that this maelstrom has begun.

I mentioned my wife because I had offered to have her bring the firearm over to drop it off, due to my having been party to the theft of a car stereo when I was 17. This offered because you are a judgemental person cj, and I was trying to find a way to get that piece of history refinished by a person with good skills and questionable integrity. I never threatened you, and you know this.

Your desperation is showing through. Most people, when pressed, can remember items they had previously dismissed.
