  • Open Container Law in Denton?

Anyone know for fact what the law is on, say, walking down the street drinking a beer? I saw some things on the TABC site that indicated that it is typically legal between certain hours as long as the container isn't glass but it also said that it varies city to city. Have we got any Denton PD on this board or anyone else who'd know for sure?

should be the same as anywhere else in the state lol.

if the place sells alcohol for off-premise consumption, then you cant open it at all on the property. if they sell it for on-premise consumption (restaurant/bar), you can't leave off the property with it and can't bring any open containers in.

The whole glass container thing is enforced in the fry street and square areas as far as I remember. I was ticketed for a glass container on hickory, went to court and it was thrown out. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

AS long as u aint drunk, danger to urself or others, and your not driving (open container pertains to u being in a vehicle with a opened container of alcoholic beverage) then drinking a beer on the streets is cool. Oh, and that your also of age doesnt hurt either.

But any officer can cite you for public intox for walking down the street. Come out of a bar or establishment and try to walk down the road to your hotel room and bammm, busted
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

OK then explain the stockyards? People openly walk around with beer without hassle.

Only if you make yourself a target.

Oh, and along with the ticket comes a 4 hour "time out" in jail.

That area is considered a state park.

I'm not sure of that actually. I know it wasn't that way in the past.

A few years back when I lived in Plano, I was walking my dog before dinner and had a beer in hand. A Plano cop pulled up beside me while walking and informed me that was aginst the law to do that and drove away.

The river walk, any sport stadium parking. Arent these place that allow you to drink outside suppose to get permits for open container allowed outdoors

Another thing to note is UNT is state land/property and a school and they have stricter policy on on open containers and alcohol
