        Lol I should've made this a poll..

I'll probably start branching out to a truck forum too. I really don't want to get stuck replacing shit on a truck I just purchased..

Do the 08s have the same issues as the previous three years ie head studs? If I buy a truck I don't really want to throw more money into it off the bat.
Matt, Brad, dblack, Chernobyl, Jeff, Forrest and Samhain all have the 6.4 which is 08 or newer. I'm sure one of them can tell you more, but I've heard to stay away from the Job 1 (refers to build date) trucks. Get a job 2 or higher if you're looking at an 08. I've not heard of a head stud issue. But you would want to do a DPF delete (better mileage, more reliable) a tune, and exhaust. At the very least, DPF/tune. But if you're going to tune, why not tune for exhaust too?

I'll add, I know a guy that has a job1 6.4, and one or both turbos need to be replaced. It's got 150,000 miles, and is driven like a rental because it's a company install truck, hauling s/s fab and kitchen equipment.

If the 08 you are looking at is under 100k miles you can get a 7yr/200k mile warranty covering the engine, turbos, injectors/injection pump, etc.

I still wouldn't buy a job1. I had one that I felt so bad about selling to a individual that I took a beating on and traded out of state for a 07. The upside to a 6.0 is that there are no surprises. I know exactly what shit is going to break after dealing with over 30 of them since 03. They aren't bad trucks, and overall, aside from the several common engine problems, they are tough as nails.

To add to this post: I have never had a single AC issue on a ford that wasn't a minor electrical part. I've never had to put a radiator in a 6.0. I've never had a issue with a rear end in a ford.

To the cummin trucks plus side: I've never put a injector in one, and I've had three cross the 200k mark. Most 6.0 trucks will need 16 injectors by the point in time.

Yep you just never know with diesels and they get expensive fast. My damn AC blower motor went out on the way back from Memphis, luckily the fresh air coming thru kept me with AC unless I pulled off for something.

After reading your posts I am wondering why you want a diesel so bad. With the money you are looking at spending you could get a brand new V8 crew from Skip or close to it with a warranty. I bet the better interest rate would make up for the difference in price unless you are paying cash. Dont let the police stop you on the way to buy MWAHAHAAHA

This is my advice so take it with a grain of salt. Unless you can get a brand new Diesel or some kind of bad ass warranty with a used one then stay away from them. The new trucks with V8s should pull anything you will ever need and are super nice. I paid 10k for my 02 with 139k and it will pull anything I could put behind it with no problems (two owner). At 10k it wont hurt my feelings if I need to do anything to it or want to mod it. However if I paid 24k and had to do repairs I would be sick since I am far from baller status. I do not know about the new trucks but mine likes to be warmed up, and then I always let the turbos cool down after I park it. Not like a gas truck where you can just jump in and go and then park and shut it off. Not to mention oil changes cost more, fuel filters require more attention, and diesel is at least 20 cents more a gallon. I was dropping 90 bucks a fill up on my trip for 24 gallons and its down right now, shit I only took it because the wifes Versa had a tire out of whack and we were headed that way. Also you need to remember that if you do get a warranty they love to deny claims for everything. I think their favorite is contaminated fuel or something along those lines which is BS. I am far from the expert on Diesel trucks as I stay in the older models due to price but I have learned a lot over the last five years or so. When I sell this one I will be going with a new V8 eventually. If you find you a super clean 95-03 for 10-14k it would leave you enough for a spare around town car, or a nice rock crawler to pull behind it.

diesel is 20 cents more than 87 here.

the best way to warm up a diesel is to drive it.

modern oils making cooling down turbos more of a rain dance than anything. If you're pulling heavy at full load? yes, let them cool down for a minute or two. If you're just daily driving? don't worry about it.

driving a diesel is one of those things that gets in your blood after a while. I absolutely can't imagine driving a full size gas truck

I think a lot of people buy a diesel to feel like Big Hoss and then when the costs start kicking in they regret the decision. I prefer the way they operate, but right now, I wouldn't want to pay for the PM on one, or any other HD pieces that break.

I am a pretty small framed guy so I guess I would fall in that category. lol I will admit I probably will never need all of the power the F250 or Cummins has but that doesn't stop me from wanting one. I have wanted one for many years and I have the money to buy one so why should I avoid it because there is a stereo type associated with it? lol I have also wanted a new CTS-V and a Corvette for a long time too but I prefer not to be associated with a certain label just because the vehicle I drive.

I have considered the F150s but from what I have seen the year range, miles, and options are pretty close to where I am seeing the F250 diesels. I also wanted a diesel because I have always heard how long they live and how well they hold up, but after reading that I am not getting that vibe.

As for the regular maintenance, that is the least of my concerns. I work from home, so fuel will be sparsely used and i will not need as much maintenance due to the miles I put on every month. What does concern me though is the big up front cost for head studs, etc.

Life of the emissions diesels are shorter than the older diesels. I would say a well maintained gasser would last just as long. The focus went from efficiency to burning clean and the process of cleaning them up reduces life.

Jeff and I have 2011 models, which are 6.7s. It's the first year of this motor...(ford makes the powerstroke, now). I didn't get those cool twin turbos, unfortunately, but I'm about to do the deletes and hit Forrest up for a mini maxx here pretty soon. I'm already tired of dealing with the def and regens!
