  • Question for people who have worked in the restaurant business

I went to the local Restaurant and my bill was 35.99, I put it on my debit card and left a $20 tip. But when I look at my bank account on line, it says 35.99 was debited. My question is.........why doesn't the tip show up? This isn't the first time I have notice this. So exactly how does that work?

either they forgot to add the tip (highly unlikely) or it hasnt posted yet to your account (more likely)

So I should see another $20 come out in time....right? Why would they split it up?

        It will show up...

It takes another day or two..... when the first authorization is made, it has the origianl amount amount....then it's amended to show the tip.

My wife has her nails done all the time, same thing....original pruchase first, then 2 days later, the amount including tip.....

makes it tough to keep a daily balance on your check book, but it normal now.....

By the way, WTF is up with women always doing their nails ??? F---Me

If you checked it right when you got home, the tip might not have been entered. when the daily batch is settled it should show up
          "PSH!!!"

WHAT HE SAID! When it is run for the bill at 35.99 that is what you authorized and then you added the tip to that slip. When the server picks up the slip they will either enter it shortly after into the CC machine OR they will do it at the end of the shift. Then the batch is run and processed through the CC company at the end of the night. Depending on what time it is done or if they resturant had a glitch in the system it could take up to 3-4 days but will usually show up in 1-2 on YOUR account.

I recondition headlights on most cars for $50.00. If interested shoot me a pm.

When I do tip I always use cash! I used to forget about a tip that I placed on my card over the weekend and then have it show up later and wonder where did that come from. LOL

Just like they said, the card is ran for the initial amount, the later the store manager closes out the tickets with the final amount listed.

Btw nice tip. Worked in the resteraunt business for 4 years and you made someones day.
