I know a guy who hit a cow with a freightliner, tore that truck up. Believe his insurance paid for it.

Not in Texas.... FM roads, owner of the animal is liable.

Ive picked enough random animals up off the highways in ftworth and johnson county to know a little bit.

My dad hit a bull on FM157/Industrial at Moser Valley in 1970... while driving a Volkswagen. He hit it so hard that the car flipped three times and you could read the spare tire size information in the front sheetmetal. It tore him up really bad and he still has a lot of scars on his head and face from it. Hitting livestock with a car is NO JOKE.

That horse video sucked. The horse was just doing his thang and wham...

You better go back and check. If a police/Sheriffs report is made on more than one occasion before a person hits the livestock it will be livestock owners responsibility as long as proof of ownership can be proven. I grew up in the middle of nowhere and have helped catch loose livestock on many occasion and have many discussions with several different counties law enforcement officers liability will all fall on the previous reports and proof of ownership.

You're wrong here...maybe it's county or city based but a driver can be held liable on Texas FMs

I work for TXDOT, every animal in the road and car hit it on any state road that ive worked over the past 6years the officers have told me the owner of the livestock is responsible. Johnson county is majority FM roads.... However theres almost as much traffic in that county as city roads it seems these days.

Im not arguing that a driver can be liable or not, just stating what ive seen happen in my real world experiance. I believe that they are putting more responsabilty on the live stock owners to keep the animals contained properly

Ive burried a horse and a cow at the little rd/20 stock pile lol... That place is a grave to so many different animals.

It's very possible that could be county or city regulated all counties that I've helped in my area it's driver's responsibility on FM roads unless they have been a problem in the past.

I know that area very well. There are some horse stables "right there". Poor fellow probably got loose from there. I hope he is found before he is hurt or hurts someone.
