It's probably one of the Shelby "GT" cars that weren't much more than an appearance package on a regular GT.

At least that is my first thought after reading the ad.

I have no dog in the CS is a punk fight. I regret not meeting the man. At the same time, I would NOT have paid him to sign a damn thing.
The thing about him charging for signing stuff is that ALL the money went to his childrens cancer charity. He gave HUGE sums of money to that charity, I imagine up to the limit the IRS allowed. After that he donated his time to sign merchandise and all that money went to the charity also. Was he a saint? No but he sure has helped children alot more than most on here have.

As for him being arrogant? I think the man has a right to be. He was a bad azz driver and if his heart had been better who knows how many more championships he would have won. Then he built some truely great cars. The Cobra is a car that almost anyone would love to have! The GT350's and 500's were the topdog mustangs and if Ford hadn't gotten greedy and screwed him in 69 he would have stayed with Ford and we MIGHT not have had such sucky mustangs in the mid 70's (there would have been a shelby block to check for more power).
My two pocket rockets owe everything to him.. My Shelby Charger came about because dodge asked him what they should do to improve thier standing in the ponycar wars. And it worked! Back in the day I STOMPED so many IROCS it got boring, the expression on their faces afterwards not so much! LOL! My 87 CSX is a Shelby numbered car that is #323 out of 750.

Na, I've seen threads about him before and people gave plenty of shit when he was alive. Probably more, because most people -like me- right now are just showing the respect side for now. It's not like I'm losing any sleep over it, he is a car legend though and that can't be denied.

The guy was a human being. He made mistakes and did good things like most of us. When we all die, do we want people focusing on the mistakes we made and the things we did wrong or how we contributed and helped and made a positive impact in this shitty world be it in a small way or a big way?

I know what I would want and I hope guys who are ragging on CS will think about it for a minute before degrading a dead person.

Last line is VERY true. There comes a point where you reach or beat a skill level to a degree that you earn the right to sort of be a dick about it. However, those that do it and then maintain their humility will always be a little more celebrated. Look at John Force. I don't think I could find a negative thing to say about that guy.

Also, I wasn't aware that most of the money he made signing shit went to charity. That is nice to know, and certainly adds a little more polish to his image for me.

Who, me? Hell, I don't know. I fell down some stairs yesterday and have been floating in a cloud of pain killers since.

                      • R.I.P Mr Shelby. If not for you I wouldnt be enjoying my car. Although I dont agree with some of his actions, I still definatly appreciate what he did for the automotive world.

                          • This is truly sad to hear. Regardless of the kind of person he was, he did tons for the sport. Not one of us is perfect when it comes to our attitudes or qualities, his just happened to be in the public's eye.

                            RIP Mr. Shelby
