nope, he made tons of money but might have tarnished his image with some of his fans towards the end of his career/life

i compare shelby with jesse james(bike builder). they both built badass rides but also put their name on anything to make a buck. of course everyone wants to make money, it's the american way. there is a point where it gets out of hand and it's not even about the person or what they built anymore. take for example the shelby golf cart and westcoastchoppers stickers/shirts everywhere you look

respect to him for building some badass cars, no matter what you think of his legacy

I tend to agree. There is an unspoken level of "acceptable Sellout" that it seems that CS went beyond. However, regardless of the sell out, his legacy, both in racing and building cars, is greater than the perceived sell out.
Then again.... years of people making money off one's design surely would galvanize anyone into a money mongering SOB that just assumes the next "copy cat" will steal your design.

I have no dog in the CS is a punk fight. I regret not meeting the man. At the same time, I would NOT have paid him to sign a damn thing.
To each his/her own and at any rate, the Car Hobby has lost an innovator. I challenge anyone to argue that fact.
