The motorsports world would not be the same without the AC or GT40.

I would assume the opposite. It wouldnt be a suprise to see a shelby memorial edition.

Even the early GT350 Mustangs were really successful.

I still don't understand why anyone would have an issue with the things he did. He wasn't just a legendary car builder, he was also an astute businessman. Just think of all the times he lost money doing dumb things or was taken advantage of... oh wait, he didn't. He even got a BUNCH of suckas to pay him to sign glove boxes. Awesome.

Meh. I just don't really care for the "Anything for a buck" attitude. I don't BLAME him for it, and can't really say what I would do in that situation, but it's just the sell out perception of it. I think it inadvertently diminished his accomplishments a bit, be that fair, or not. I still respect what he did though.

I don't know why. But I feel better knowing he passed away in Texas of somewhat natural causes

I understand that the proceeds for most of the "signings" he held, went to his childrens' cancer foundation. I also understand that he never really won any of the lawsuits against the "clone" companies, even though he spent a ton of money to protect his name. I spent a few seconds talking to him at the Mid-America Shelby meet in Tulsa about 20 years ago, and he came across as bitter and egotistical.

Still better than meeting Boyd Coddington. I swear he must have been on five tabs of Xanax and looked like he needed a drool cup at Autorama back in 06.

I had heard that about Coddington. Maybe he was already sick? Didn't he die from cancer not long after that?

It's possible. He died almost exactly 2 years later.

Carroll Shelby is a name that's lost some luster over the years. Now that name is going onto a coffee maker. OK, that's it, the luster's completely gone.
