I get the out-of-court settlement...I'm just saying it's possible they were never paid. I don't know how that could happen...I'm just saying it's possible.

As far as I'm concerned, they don't necessarily have to go to CA to adopt if it's out of their budget either.

It is different. When the word "awarded" is used, it means that the court made the decision and presumably entered a judgment. When the word "approved" is used, it means that the parties resolved the case on their own and are merely seeking the court's blessing on the deal.

I disagree. They weren't awarded it. They settled the case in exchange for payment of the $5.5M and the court approved it. If the defendant failed to pay the money after execution of the settlement docs, the case would have been reopened for them to continue to go after the defendants.
