It's kind of like saying you have to be 18 to own a shotgun or rifle. If you were truly exercising your right to keep and bear arms, anyone should be able to. And that is actually an enumerated right
Please explain how my marriage or my wedding ceremony is/was in ANY way bound by religion.

I do believe my officiant left out any references to God, including when he said, "By the power vested to be my the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, I now pronounce you husband and wife."

It was undoubtedly the one of the most spiritual moments of my life, but spirituality and religion are two completely separate things.

You are wrong, it's been explained to you how you're wrong yet you're too thick headed to see it. You've just stuck your fingers in your ears ignoring everything everyone has said and continued with the same old tired tautologies. To quote Yale: "keep that bullshit out of my thread."

All of that is religion, every single bit of it.

This is actually a tough one. It's similar to circumcision. It is a religious act yet it's been picked up by secular society. Marriage is religious but doesn't mean it's only done by religious people or acknowledging God. Same as Christmas is about the birth of Christ yet athiests and anyone with a Santa in the yard celebrate it.

It's still a religious holiday, still started off as one, doesn't mean it's not engaged in by those not religious.

Maybe I'm not explaining myself clearly. I would also acknowledge that may be.

Ultimate point is: If you acknowledge the state has the authority to license something, they have the authority to regulate it.

        • You can all have your personal views on this debate and can argue for weeks or months on end about it but I have family members that this debate affects directly who ARE from the Carolinas and HAVE left that shithole state because of the double standards and attacks on their lifestyle......BUT having seen firsthand even within my own extended family of white trash who still live there the name calling and harrassment even in my own family....I am going to ask all of you...whether its intentional or not...stop using the harsh slang words I keep hearing like FAGMARRIAGE, HOMOS, QUEERS, etc. The words GAY, BISEXUAL, LESBIAN, and HOMOSEXUAL define a lifestyle and are well defined terms. The words FAGGOT, HOMO, QUEER and other slang words sound and are meant to be offensive and are an insult not only to people whom they directly are applied toward...but also are insulting to their family. These terms are EXACTLY the same thing as calling people NIG****, SPIC**, WETBA***, etc. Its very derogatory.

If we told him that we subscribed to the belief in The Flying Spaghetti Monster, in sure that Stuart would have incorporated it into our vows.

Agreed. I won't even use the phrase 'gay marriage,' personally. I consider it marriage, no matter what the dynamic. I don't refer to my marriage as my 'heterosexual marriage,' and I feel that there is no reason to make the designation for anyone else.

                    • I am trying to find a link to explain it better than I can on a phone; I will try to post it soon. The 1st amendment applies only to the US Congress as it say "Congress shall make no law....". The 2nd and 9th do no specify so they apply to all governments in the country. The framers were intentionally specific about this; ie Congress only has the authority to coin money, meaning federal Congress and not the State. If they were talking about the individual State (tx, az, etc) then State was capitalized. Most of the amendments are supposed to apply to all governments and thus no one specific is specified. The 1st is different and in fact several states had official State religions because this. Most abolished it in favor of adopting a "freedom of religion" amendment in their own constitution, and wisely so in my opinion. It is easier to explain in person with a constitution in front of me but I wilm try to find a good link in a day or so to post a out the subject.
