    My question as well.

As far as death being cheaper: This (pages 133-136) states (with citations) that life in prison is a far cheaper alternative than the death penalty. So if you look at the death penalty from a purely financial point of view, it doesn't make sense to execute under the current legal requirements.

He took a plea on capital murder with a lesser punishment to the offense. Can't plea and receive the death penalty

Yep. If you want the death penalty is has to go before a jury.

Is that what I said? He plead guilty to not get the needle?

When he committed the crime he was 16 and Texas law says a 16yr old can't be charged with the death penalty if tried as an adult.

If I were the kid's family, I'd want a short sentence too. He'd burn alive in his car two days after he got out.

Then why plead guilty in this case? Avoiding the needle is the only reason that I can see the defense doing so. If the death penalty isn't on table, then you plead not guilty, and hope for a conviction on a lesser charge. All it takes is one sympathetic juror to hang a guilty verdict on capital murder.

Either that law has been repealed, or the defense plead guilty to try and show culpubility and remorse, in hopes of getting a lesser prison term.

As a juror, I'd be thankful of his reaction to the sentence. If there was any doubt at all in their minds that they did the right thing, he alleviated that with his outburst.

Surely there is a way to reach out to one of the real thugs in the same prison where he'll be locked down....if that was my son he murdered I'd gladly pay one or more of them nicely to ensure he received daily ass to mouth.

Patterson's aunt later said she feels the juvenile justice system failed her nephew.

"Broderick should have been placed in a boot camp facility. There should not have been time, after time, after time for him to continually get a slap on the wrist for the things he was doing. There's no help for our youth out there. But it takes something tragic like this to happen before anyone pays attention," Shery Pulte said.
Hey Cunt, how about you and your own family raise your little waste of flesh? How about the parents taking some responsibility for the way their piece of shit turned out and for his actions?

It is not MY job as a tax payer to keep your shithead out of trouble that eventually escalated into murder. If it was I would have tubes and all ripped out before your first check hit the mail box. Then, the kids you do have, checks stop coming. Kids don't contribute to society but instead become a leach like you, both of you go to the pits and smash fucking rocks. Don't like it, kill yourself and let us live our lives without your dumb family members thinking "the system" should raise your shits.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

The Auntie of this piece of walking trash should be punched for such a stupid ass remark. Amazing that certain "groups" of people blame all their misfortunes and the appearance of injustices on everybody else in the world but themselves. I am hoping that Broderick Patterson drops the soap many times and that some swell fellow named Tyrone is there to console him on a nightly basis.

A lot of these tragic situations come about, IMHO, when they, meaning all those "professionals" started bitching about spanking and child punishment . If you swatted/spanked your kid for misbehaving , your a child abuser.. As a kid of the 50's/60's, I knew if I screwed up, both mom and dad would tattoo my ass big time. If I caused problems in school, I would not only get spanked in school, you better believe I got pounded worse at home. A 3 inch wide Sam Brown belt hurts like hell!!! Didn't take too damn long to get the message!!!
Some parents should never have had kids, and their offsprings usually show it, but others have been good parents and still have a kid go off the deep end.. You just never know....
