They naturally want to please their owners but like any dog, if left to develop wildly, they will try to assert dominance in order to take rank in their community, whether small or large. They go so far as to fight or show aggression if there is a positive reaction by the owner afterward. They learn what the owner wants and likes, then they go to any extreme to please. My girlfriends pit bull gets depressed if you get mad at her or yell at her. She gets excited when you act kindly to her and she is able to sense neutral gestures so she never acts defensively toward new guests or animals either. If left to play with other animals, usually both will try to assert dominance upon eachother until one submits, and it is usually in the form of healthy and agressive play. If she knows she is on another dog's territory, she is the one to submit, regardless of the size of her aggressor.

All dog breeds have a natural instinct some are stronger than other, the biggest problems with a pit is when it shows usually someone gets hurt or worse. I realized while watching my 2 Ridgebacks hunting together one day very impressive and came naturally since they've had no training in the area at all."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

you have to teach pit bulls to be aggressive the same way you have to teach salmon to swim upstream
genetic coding and instinct are just made up scienceified words that don't mean nothin'
and holy shit Jody did you ever call it earlier! LOL

I'm still waiting for my dog to kill something. Or just attack something. Or hell, just chase something. He flinches when my sister's 6lb tabby hisses at him.
I think pit bulls' animal aggression is instinctive, but the human aggression is a nasty byproduct of current breeding techniques to make them overall bigger, stronger, and more aggressive.
And no shit Jody, I get tired head from these stupid threads. Let's sing kumbaya.
