  • Merry Christmas- You're being laid off!

Well, my Christmas bonus from my wonderful employer, AT&T (the evil empire) came in the form of a severance package! What kind of piece of shit company lays people off this close to Christmas. My meeting invite was sandwiched in between emails from the CEO telling us how strong our numbers are and an e-mail from my VPGM with performance rankings with my name near the top! Poltical bullshit means I am out and some of the worst performers in the region are staying. Super. I have worked there for 10 years and they took literally 4 minutes to tell me i'm out!

Anyone know of any good positions available??

Ya know, sometimes they skim the top to cut salary costs. IMHO, AT&T is a terrible company. None of my customers are satisfied by them but it is a monopoly they have for the a lot of things.

From my perspective, they've made it personal. When their constant mistakes costs my company money and me my personal time with family, it is completely personal at that point. I did a project in Midland that we had 400 hours on and we're over. About 80 hours of it was fixing AT&T issues that were completely preventable by any company with half a lick of sense.

That sucks.. I was laid off from my previous employer 3 weeks after Christmas 2 years ago, believe me, it's no easier then either. I was there 10 years also.

You might have better luck with a job search if you tell everyone what it is ya do here.

Aetna. They did the exact same thing to my wife two years ago.

Sucks to hear. Sounds like they took out the top salaries.

I got told yesterday, while at the xmas party, that they were extending my work contract 7 more days. LOL. I think they felt bad becuase the 22nd would have been my last day otherwise.

That's the most frustrating part of it.. for the 6 years I have had this position I have NEVER been ranked lower than 5th on our team of 12 and am almost always in the top two but I am in the bottom three as far as salary! There are a few bloated salaries on this team that are consistently near the bottom in performance. They cut three of the four lowest salaries on the team that make roughly HALF of what the top four make... how the hell does that make business sense?!?

I agree about AT&T being terrible... you think you saw some ass backwards stuff try being on the inside and seeing that crap every day.

Na, I can hear the frustration in the people I yell at who are yelling at me over yet another unplanned outage, cut or other technical snafu.

A few months ago it almost made me miss my kids first birthday. They just randomly moved a block of DIDs for a customer to another of the customer's PRIs that were not configured for those inbound DIDs. Thankfully another engineer stepped in and handled it, but that was 8 hours on its own that day. (still had me leaving 3 or 4 hours late)

I was/am a National Account Executive for AT&T Mobility (formerly Cingular Wireless). Basically I have a territory with 25 big box retailers and do training, merchandising, account support. I was responsible for meeting various sales goals and was consistently ranked among the best in the region. I handled any customer issues that couldn't be handled at the store level. My stores generated about $1.2 million a year in revenue for AT&T. I have a BBA in Marketing (mostly paid for by the evil empire) and an MBA in Management (completely paid for by the evil empire).

Randall has great timing doesnt he? I have turned down multiple mgmt jobs here at ATT just because I dont want to get into all that political mess they have to deal with. I would rather deal with the unions BS and be a peon.

Are you an RSC? Where at? How is the income like at store level these days? That's where I started with the company and actually made better money than I do now but that was back in the Cingular Wireless days. If I don't find anything after 6 months (i don't have to pay back my severance after that) then I might even look back at RSC jobs.

Randall could care less about his employees... the stockholders are all that matter.

Im on the wireline side (10yrs also) but my wife just started in wireless 2 months ago in the collections dept. Except for the absolute crap pay on the wireless side, she doesnt mind the job at all.

I cant tell you how many managers I have talked to that make less than I do though. We had a girl come in straight from college and she cried the first time she handed out checks because the people she was managing made almost twice as her.

If I was you, I would apply for a job on the wireline side and stick to being a peon. The union pisses me off but unless your able to make it high up in the ranks, there is no reason to go into managment. I have yet to meet a 1st or 2nd line manager than didnt agree.

**EDIT** I say apply for the wireline side assuming you would be ok with the pay since they will probably pick you up pretty quick seeing you have expirience. With degree's and management expirience, I would personally look elsewhere for a higher paying job but if you are considering going back to wireless as a peon, I would choose wireline instead. The pay difference is quite a bit.
