acetone evaporates fast?

i have a bucket of acetone i have some r/c wheels and tires soaking in so i can remove the tires as the wheels are stripped. i poured a gallon of the acetone in a small bucket along with 2 of the wheels and tires and its almost empty. is this evaporating, or are the foams inside the tires soaking all the acetone up?

It's evaporating, acetone is an alcohol so it evaporates really quickly. If you want the acetone to stay in it longer put it in a sealed container. Tupperware, things like that. Make sure your wife won't miss them.

I was wrong. I associate things that are distilled with alcohols.

Edit: I'm a fuckin' 'tard. There are TONS of things that are distilled that aren't alcohols.

be careful with the tupperware container. Acetone is volatile enough that if you shake it after the vapor pressure has nomalized it will evaporate a lot more and possibilty blow the top on your tupperware container. Mostly it's just a pain if you're trying to clean things in it and you shake the parts and container to facilitate quicker degreasing, but some might be more cognizant of an open container around an ignition source than one they think is sealed.

Your not supposed to put the wheels in the acetone. Supposed to put them on a rack right above it and let the glue melt away then pull them off.
