In Colorado Springs there was an overpass from I-25 that took you out east referred to as the 24 bypass (US24). The blacks started clamouring in the late 80's for representation from the King. So the city named the bypass the MLK Jr Bypass, it is only a few miles of road before it turns into Fountain.

Not more than 3 months after the renaming the stretch, all of the retaining walls, bridges, barriers, etc were heavily tagged and filled with graffiti. It wasn't even in the hood, but they felt that the Dr. did his duty to give them the right to krylon bitch!

Well those people of color always want the ghetto, the hood, crime areas to name a street after the man they look up to. Hell if was alive today to see what they turned into, he prob kill his own self.

Is division st in the ghetto? Serious question.

I didn't read the article, but did they choose Division st. because of its name?
They stated (from what I read) that they wanted his name on a nice predominate street. When the Mayor suggested a less busy street the activist claimed "MLK was not a hood brother, why would you put his name on a hood street"....have they not been down Division?

And since they claim to "wanna be fair" how come they are not fighting for a George Washington street, or a Benjamin Franklin street, or a Rosa Parks street? Because they were not as controversial (I know the last one could be considered because of the whole bus seat thing)?

Every time I hear these claims and “not getting their way” arguments it just makes me feel that we have been going against the grain since Lincoln dreamed up that wild idea of his. We survived for thousands of years with slavery and injustices, non PC leaders, why change now?

I think they play the race card as it is the only card they have. They wanted to be treated as everyone else, you got it. You want the same rights as everyone else, you got it. Oh wait, you are now treated equal and have no basis for an argument? Must be because you are black then huh? That seems to be their argument whenever someone does not do what they want...almost like forcing everyone else into involuntary mental slavery...you dont wanna make this choice but this group is really laying on the pressure....humm

this pretty much sums up the cause and argument for me...in not so many words

Just read that entire thing. What a crock of bullshit. Highlights: Racial division in Arlington and not trusting the city? We had a black mayor not too long ago. Oh, don't worry about the cost to business owners, the city can just help them pay for it. And finally, MLK already has a sports complex named after him here. Get the fuck outta here and find something worthwhile to get up in arms about you fucking morons.

There was some kind of rally at my school a couple of weeks ago about the Trayvonn Martin case, and they mentioned the renaming of Division St. Their reason for choosing Division as the street to be renames is because of the name "DIVISION".

NAACP feels that us Americans are too divided so therefore they want to do away with Division.

Fine, name it Unity St. How is naming a street after a black man going to bring us together? Seriously, the reasoning is laughable.

In this country, if you don't bow down to every whim of these shitbags then you are a racist. They use a concept known as white guilt to get their way.

One guy says in the reviews that this book details a new form of racism, I think that is a pretty accurate description:

Because once it gets the name, legitimate businesses won't go near it, along with most white folks.
