Being the Libertarian that I am this hits me at so many levels that I can't figure out what to be pissed off about first.

#1 Why is it the governments business if a person wants to smoke or sell weed?

#2 Weapons charges? What business does the government have regulating firearms or any weapons for that matter?

#3 Using para military tactics on the citizenry for normal day to day LE duties is completely unjustifiable.

#4 Killing dogs during any type of entry is not excusable even if they are big mean dogs.

It deeply grieves me that LE is full of cops and not peace officers. I am beginning to believe that LE needs to be a citizens corp that every one must serve in at some point in their life via a draft and that a select few of the draftees be allowed to continue to serve if they show good personal qualities while in service and if they so choose.

Some idiot made the mistake to jump in the backyard of my house around 3am, I was not sued.

So if someone breaks into my house and my dog gets to them before me and fucks their shit up, I can get sued? But it's perfectly ok for me to shoot someone in the face when they break into me home?
Shoot him after the dog has attacked.

Article says something about "firearms charges"... wonder what that's about.. Either Felon in possession of a firearm, or a FED case (which wouldn't come up for a few weeks until the AUSA could get the indictment)

Only an idiot would award a judgement in this circumstance.

Still, it's a situation that probably could have been avoided, but if the dogs are coming after the officers, oh well.

LOL! According to some of the LEOs here, it's difficult to hit a dog with a taser. Tasers aren't even necessary. All they need is an object in their hands to relate distance, or a barrier. A rifle, ram, broom, shoe....

The dogs served their purpose. Protected the house. That doesn't give the cops the right to start blasting away.
I'll agree with you about meter readers and that the SWAT guys were probably trigger happy dumbasses. If they kicked in the door and went in hot, then by all means the dogs were in the right to attack. I was working off the assumption that they knocked and then entered, but then again it could have been a kick the door in type deal. What I don't get is why they don't taze the dog(s) or something in these situations? That's the part that confuses me. Why can't one or two guys on the team be prepared to handle dogs with non-lethal force? Perhaps there is no tazer in Call of Duty?

Of course the cops are gonna say the dogs attacked them. Garland PD is a department full of hot headed supercops with itchy trigger fingers who think they can do anything they want and get away with it. I hope they get their asses handed to them in court.
