If this dude has money... Tell him he needs a whole new deck as well! That way you can just demo everything and start from scratch!

He's taking out a home improvement loan to do it. Should be in the ballpark of about $35m...

Lol! A retaining wall of that length and height, if you can drive the truck right up to it, will run you close to $25. This is entirely hand trucked.

Not to mention the liability of a house crashing down on you while you're building it...

pretty much, you drive rebar with ribs in the side, every 2 foot on center and pin it with #3 mesh then spray gunite, then you form the outer wall with a betonite and drain mat, then you pour concrete. the water from the concrete causes the betonite to swell against the drain mat making all the in ground water flow to a drain. strip the forms and you have a smooth (usually wall)

Man, that scares the shit out of me, and I'm fearless! Looks like a ton of liability from a few angles: the deck falling off, the house sliding down in a year (or having structural issues), or as you mentioned, someone just having that rotten-ass wall fall on them. He waited a shade too long, IMHO.

Once you touch a job like that, he could have you in court even after several years. Just be really careful wording that contract he signs with you.

Was thinking about that as well. One of my clients is a lawyer in Rockwall, another a Rockwall County Judge. Think I'll get something worked out on this.

It is definitely a scary job, and I'm still weighing it. And thinking that someone has to do it! Which is why who ever signs off on it is so critical. Had a few good contacts show up today from facebook...

This is what I need to do out there. There is simply too much liability in hoping that the backfill we use behind a wall we pour is packed enough. This seemingly removes any voids.

I'll call you tomorrow, this we may need to work out.
