  • Do we have any structural engineers on the board?

Specifically relatively close to the Rockwall area? I have a dwelling in Rockwall on which I am about to engage a pretty large project, dealing with an 82' long and 7' high retaining wall, 'on' which a $300M/K house sits. Or at least the rear deck, with the base of the foundation being within 5' at one point. I have a design in place and need to consult with someone to determine how solid the design is and pinpoint any perceived flaws...

That would be disastrous on this one Sean, as the house just about sits on top of it...

Back up, anyone able to help out with this? Design is in place, I need it proofed...

I know, and I'm about halfway scared of it. Everything has to be brought in and removed by hand. Probably be using a ground pump to get the concrete in there. Preliminary investigation looks like we'll have to set up several support columns for the deck, then remove about five feet of dirt in order to have a sufficient 'shelf' at the beam to prevent the wall from leaning out.

Going to be a nightmare of a job since we can't get equipment in there very easily.

You do retaining walls as well Mike? Or just helping out a friend (and by the looks of the job must be a GOOD friend)?

Due to the amazing amount of peripheral to roofing work that I have encountered, and what with my being second generation construction, I am branching out. Currently looking at changing the business name to "All in One Home Solutions", and saving about ten thousand a year in insurance due to the lessening of liability created by a roofing centric business. It's amazing how much insurance is in roofing!

So, in that I have a lot of family still in construction, and in that I have friends who own their own companies doing everything from concrete to plumbing to electrical, I am now "doing it all"! It helps that I have now partnered up with a gentleman who has been doing this for the last 15 years.

So y'all call me! Regardless of what it is, I definitely have the people available to take care of you.

That looks like a fucking mess. I can see building up a rock wall in its place but it seems too tall to be stable. You'd think something like a tilt up concrete wall would be better.

I sent you an email about my roof.

                        just throwing this out there.
i would take it down in stages and use shotcrete and pins,
the pour back cast in place. that is how i do underground parking garages

Isn't that what they are doing on the walls of 635? I don't know much about the process but they are sinking pins into it and laying on some sort of concrete that looks like it is sprayed. I'm assuming they will come back and put up forms and then pour a wall later.

May be something to look into. What equipment is needed, as I can't get anything other than wheelbarrows and pack mules into this location. It's about as tough a location as there is to get to...
