I'm not going to confront any suspicious individuals going into the house next door at night unarmed.

But why go confront them? If I see something suspicious in my neighborhood I usually just stand in a very visible place and very noticeably watch what is going on.

If I think someone's place is getting broken into, I call the cops. I sure as hell am not walking over to an empty house with a gun. If I feel the need to carry a gun and point it, I feel my life is in jeopardy. I would not put my life in jeopardy to protect a bank's property. In fact, I would not risk my life to protect theft in general. To protect someone else's life is one thing, but my kids need a dad more than any material possession owned by someone else..
