So you know, this is what is referred to as a straw purchase. The person who fills out the 4473 is attesting that they are the person who is verified as the buyer. Lying on this form is a felony an can be punished by up to five years in prison in addition to fines.

Also so you know, there is no putting it in anyone's name required. It is simply saying that you, the person buying the firearm is legally allowed to.
