Anyone else fumbling around with a gun that accidently shoots someone would get jail time. Why the hell would a cop, who above all else should know how to properly handle his weapon, ESPECIALLY if he's going to have it pulled on someone during a drug sting NOT get in trouble for this?

The officer involved in the shooting has not been identified and remains on administrative leave. He is a sergeant who has been with the Plano Police Department for eight years. A Collin County grand jury weighing criminal charges against the officer last month took no action.

I believe they said they were going for the maximum allowed by the City of Plano, which is $250,000.

How ironic that a municipality can set a maximum amount for which they can be sued. Fuck this police state that our country is slowly evolving into.

                That's in the Constitution, too.

And what tac light has an on switch on the trigger? All the lights I know have to be flicked on with the finger extended. It's a BS call against the light manufacture for the officer's incompetence, IMO.

An accidental shooting by an officer is no more or less tragic than a civilian accidental shooting. Only difference is the officer is TRAINED to avoid such things. Accident or not, a civilian would've been brought up on charges for the shooting.

What really baffles me, is THIS on the dash cam? WTF would he fess up to this? You would think that he would have said he made a move toward what looked like a weapon. But he fessed up and told the truth. Who woulda thunk it?

While the officer should be in prison, the family shouldn't get a fucking dime. Didn't read all the way through, but I bet the flashlight mfr is next. If your son wasn't selling heroin, he wouldn't be dead. Look at it this way... If the cop didn't do it, a junkie would have. So it was only a matter of time from the get go
LMAO... if only court proceedings could be this simple and straight forward.

My taclight, Streamlight TLR-1 has a finger switch that can only be activated by indexing the weapon. Makes no sense how this happened.

The light used has a pressure switch that activates the light when the middle finger on your grip grips the pistol grip. Im guessing the guy thought he was using his index finger instead the grip that is supposed to be used with the light and missed. Still no excuse.

Here's a pic of the officers gun:
