If any of your rollbacks have air brakes, hang a car on the wheel lift and that should put you over 26,001 lbs. combonation vehicle with air brakes. There ya go. The test is easy, nothing you dont do on a daily basis. Ive done the one ton and 3 car hauler and i will tell you your not gonna get rich.

The only way you can fight the ticket is with a good attorney, which means $$$$$,

And once you have a CDL, you always have a CDL lic., unless it gets suspended or revoked.

Also you agree to "applied consent"...pulled over for possible DWI, instant breath and blood....no choice.

Just be prepared to be more aware of speed limits and traffic signs....always where your seatbelt and don't ride a motocycle without the correct indorsement.

I have had my CDL for 9-years and got my first speeding ticket a couple weeks ago. I don't know whether to fight it or just pay it ($227) but it is gonna suck having that on my record! No more speeding for me when the work gets done it gets done!

Pretty much what everyone above said is true. The main thing is the driving portion is just that they want to see u confident. They don't need a crazy person out there on the road

                  We don't work for tickets.

There are up front costs involved with getting your license. Make sure and go to a large DMV to take your tests, not some little storefront. Otherwise you may have to take each test seperately on different days.

What Chili said is absolutely right.

Read up on HOS regulations. Make sure you inspect your vehicle daily. Decide if you are going to be 60/7 or 70/8. If you're doing intrastate only, and returning to your "home terminal" each day, you will likely fall under the 12 or 14 hour rules. Will you be doing this yourself, with your equipment, or working for someone else? If it's just you, you may need to apply for a DOT/MCC/TXDOT #.

Bottom line, if you're doing this on your own it's more complicated than just passing a test and rolling. And with CSA2010 now active, there's more enforcement.

                  Good luck!

Any recommendations on how to go about this? I want the quickest (and hopefully affordable) way to do it.
If you own the truck and trailer, then take the computer test for general knowledge and combination vehicle. A one ton vehicle will most likely be air over hydraulic brakes, so no need for an air brake endorsement. You can obtain the air brakes at a later time.

So hanging a car off the back makes it a combination vehicle, new one on me. When it reads 26,001#, it doesn't mean you have to load the vehicle up and over that weight limit. It's based off the truck and trailer's combined gross vehicle weight rating. Unless things have changed, last I heard rollbacks do not require a CDL, I could be wrong.

For what it's worth, I was issued a moving violation from Arlington PD (have a CDL). Went to the courts building the next business day, paid the citation in full and it never went on my record. A year and a half later and no violation showing. It's been over three years now since the citation was issued, so I should be good.

dont forget you will need to keep a log book. Pass DOT physical. If you cross a state line that subjects you to those rules also.
