You guys that keep hitting your shins on them just need to pay better attention. I've never hit one, ever.

I leave mine in there but I pull a trailer about twice a week.... Saying that, my current truck has been rear-ended twice in the three years I've had it. Both times, it took the other radiator out and no damage to the truck.

I've got a beast of a step made out of 1/4" wall 2" square tubing and 3/8" diamond plate. One of the rig welders made it for one of the old techs at work, and when he left, I pirated it.

        it's friggin' STOUT

I always called it the "toyota scoop" because it just had a nice ring to it, and I'll be damned if a girl in a RAV4 didn't kiss it this morning. Thankfully it was ultra low speed and zero damage was done to either vehicle. Just thought it funny that it was a toyota that finally hit it

Is any way you could say they damaged your hitch and you need some insurance money .

I've never thought of leaving it on for defensive purposes. Mine stays in because I never know when my jeep will be recruited to move boats around at the shop.

I had a Bimmer run under the back I my last Jeep. I have no idea if the hitch helped things or not.

We had frame damage from the hitch taking the impact. We literally drive off of the hood of the BMW, and the hitch definitely did some damage to him.

When I was building trailers I kept a ball/lunet ring combo in there. I was parked at a courthouse and some old guy that was looped out his mind on old guy meds got too close, snagged that, shifted my parking position by about 18" and kept going. I backed out and hauled ass after him (not knowing it was an old guy) but it left a titanic like tear down the side of his little toyota car. It looked like someone tried to rip the car in half.

I lost a back up sensor from the fender that was torn off.

other option would beer the gate and both quarters and rear floor taking the hit.

I don't know. When he hit the brakes, he went nose down and slid straight under. He never even touched the actual bumper. I wish I took another angle of the hitch. It was just a few inches from the deck in that picture.

He actually pushed us into the Titan ahead of us, which caused the majority of our damage.

I always leave mine in, it's got a rubber insert that decreases the hit on acceleration and decel. It's been the result of 2 damaged bumpers. Both times I was rearended at an intersection. It didn't help me much the last time unfortunately.

It was at an intersection, chick said her flip flop got stuck as the made the turn while I had the right of way.

IMHO, i see those who post up about how bad ass your hitch is at stopping anyone rear ending you are the same ones who in parking lots back up and forget that your hitch is smashing and scraping the shit out of cars behind you as you back up your 19 foot long truck.

My car got damaged repeatedly in college by billy-boys backing up drunk as hell , and every little bit of damage always looked exactly like a trailer hitch .

I pull mine off. Looks stupid leaving it on, and I'd rather fix/replace a bumper than whack my knee/shin on it at night.

                                Yes, I'm big and clumsy.
