Who's been to Hawaii?

We are planning a vacation there in Sept/Oct,but not sure what island to go to. Been looking at the south side of Maui as it has lots of different types of beaches. Any recommendations y'all have for where to stay, hotel reviews, beaches, activities, dos and don'ts would be great.

The right location and hotel is most important right now.

hawaii is badass...ive been to maui, but dont recall what resort we stayed at.

if you do go, make sure to parasail over the pacific and ride a bicycle down a volcano

oh and find you a nice scrimshaw knife to take home if you like that sort of stuff

Stayed in Maui at the Mahana @ Kanapaali (sp?). Beautiful ocean views, so much to do. Really enjoyed it

Both times I've been to Maui we've stayed in the Kaanapali area. I like getting a condo so we can get some food at the grocery store and make breakfast in the room. Drive the road to Hana one day (rent a convertible or Jeep you can take the top off). Eat at Mama's Fish House (It's $$$, I'd almost say overpriced, but I'll go every time I'm there. I'd kill a man for their lilikoi infused creme brule). Snorkel Molokini (I'd recommend http://www.sailtrilogy.com/molokini/discover/).

Big Island - worst

Oahu - more shit to do, tourism
Maui - awesome beaches

If you stay on Oahu, I cannot stress the importance of NOT staying in Honolulu....
Go there during the day, shop, do the Pearl Harbor stuff, then go hang out somewhere else...


Waimanalo Beach on the east side is absolutely pristine, with lots of vacation rentals available.

Maui is cool because I think it is more of a local flavor (opposed to Oahu - cool place, just very commercial). Never set foot on the big island or Kauai.
