So i was going to post this up in the random picture thread without commentary, but then i got all riled up on the implications of this chart below.
Some of you may know Japan's population is aging rapidly, as in the average age of a japanese citizen keeps going up and up as no one has any kids because it's fucking expensive over there. Last i heard both Japan and some Scandinavian countries were offering money to those who have more than just the 2.1 kids it takes for replacement.
Since Japanese are so god damn xenophobic, the country is 98% ethnic japanese, which means no immigration. Typically immigrants get paid lower, sure, but historically they also raise birth rates a ton. Since the japanese want to keep "japan for japanese" they dont let any immigration in, and with the declining value of having kids in their society the aging problem gets worse.
Now here is where things suck. For every elderly retiree in japan on social services, there might be 10 younger workers helping to fund those services. If the population keeps aging, it might slip down to 5 workers per every elderly, or then only 3 workers per elderly. Would you want to be paying the burden of all those elderly people? How the hell would you have enough money for your own life or your childrens lives? The problem will just get worse, as the "cost" of raising a kid would be too hard to bear if more and more of your wages get taken out for retirees.
I know Europe is pretty much rolled over to die when it comes to birthrates, which is why more kids in England are born named Mohammed than William, but the US still has moderately good birthrates.
TL: DR version : Japan keeps getting older, which means less workers paying for more retirees. Which means more money per worker being sucked out of their pockets.
