It's not a chick thing at all. I started reading one of the books on the way back from Vegas and it's bad ass.

It's about 12 districts that surround a capitol, who tried to revolt once. After getting defeated in the revolt, the capitol made it mandatory for every district to select to kids from 12-18 to fight each other to the death as a sacrifice and as a way for the Capitol to show their power. Lots of underlying messages against goverent and just pure awesome story line.
