  • Question I was asked that I had no answer to.

    What are your thoughts?

Person asked me if vets would put down their old dog. I was told this dog is old and does not get along with people or other pets. I was also told this dog is causing thousands of dollars of damage to their home.

I had no real answer other than take it to a no kill shelter. In case you assholes are wondering, it isn't me. I don't have a dog.

Anyhow, would a vet do that? I have never been asked before so I dunno.

I assumed that in today's society they would adopt out?

Because you already had it put down, no doubt.

I have had several animals put down at the vet. All due to old age and what not...

They do charge a pretty penny though, around $350 and you have to figure out what to do with the animal afterwards although they do offer a couple of options.

              Kung Pao doggie anyone?

Cremation, or a cardboard coffin type box that you can bury them in. The box comes with the animal sealed in plastic so you don’t have to worry about the stank.

Not sure if any other vets have alternatives but this is what we were offered. They also will dispose of the body for you if you do not wish to take anything with you.

Funny thing is I was just talking to the girlfriend this weekend about what she wanted to do when her dog passed, only have a couple of years to get it figured out and I want a plan when the water works start...

<---has buried several animals against city code, they are in my parents back yard...about 20 or so

Hell, I heard of an old lady that had it in her will that her poodle be put down and buried with her. Dog wasn't even old or sick. They did it.

.22LR to the brain pan old yeller style will do the trick.

If they want it to be "humane" find out if the city or county shelter will do it for free.

My vet did it for an old Boxer I had. She was old and somewhat crippled from breaking her leg a while back. I'll tell you one thing, dropping her off at the vet was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Even though it was the best thing for her, I felt guilty about for a long time.

I had my 17 year old cat put down, she couldn't see, find her litter box or food anymore. No sense in her being miserable anymore, We also had a 12 year old dog who was getting worse with our son at the grandparents house put down......each only cost me 25$. Our vet is willing to do it if there really isn't any hope for the animal. He will ask, but once you make your case, he will do what needs to be done
