      As long as you are trying to stay mobile and flexible, as far as where you live and what you do, I would stick with a small dog. Once you start trying to move a big dog around you will run into more issues, whether it's boarding or finding a place to live (many leases rule out larger dogs). Obviously you have experience with small working dogs (rat terriers, jack russels, etc.) so you know the issues with making sure they are properly exercised and entertained. That can be a big problem for some. If you are looking for something more low key then get a small mutt like Spencer posted. Even jacked up on blow they will probably be less stress than a terrier.

          beagles are good dogs too yale. If you wanted a bigger dog that stays under most apt and other rules.

          If a beagle is still to big stick with the two best small breed dogs imho. rat terrier or dachshund.
