Anyone have one of these HF Tig welders?

My 70's era arc welder is giving me some problems lately and I need to get some shit done and I'm tired of screwing with it. It's great for welding battle ships together, but low amperage finesse isn't it's thing.

I was picking up some cut off wheels at HF and ran across this welder:

You can pick it up for $320 with a 20% coupon.. that's dirt ass cheap for a TIG/ARC. And there are 23 5 star reviews on their website... Anyone have one of these? Thoughts? It doesn't specifically say it's a DC ARC, but I assume it is since it's an inverter machine.

Buddy of mine has (had?) one similar, but a different brand. When doing my exhaust, they must have cut it a bit too short as we couldn't get one piece to fit together without a major leak no matter what we did, so we just welded that bitch shut. That was about nine years ago. That's about all I can say about them.

While I don't have one or know anyone who does just the duty cycle scares me off . Where will you get parts to fix it down the road? If you are buying it as a disposable then it might work for a while. Miller, Lincoln, hobart, thermal arc are brands that have support, where you can get parts, consumables and service after the sale.

For a few more skins I'd save and get a used one. Your call.

There have been a bunch of Miller Tig's on craigslist lately. I agree, stay with major brand. Getting consumables and parts is a PITA with the "off brands". I have a Matco brand plasma cutter. Works fine, but I have to mail order my tips. I am going to sell it and get a Miller. My welders are all Miller. They are reliable and work great. I might pull the trigger on one of those tig's on craigs if I sell this plasma and a trailer I am trying to flip

I bought a lincoln 175 tig about 6 years ago, it costs about another $750-$1k to get all the extra shit needed to operate it. Tungsten, extra parts, filler wire(I way over bought even though I have needed every kind I had purchased), brushes, helmet, bottle, etc.

That being said, I think I would trade for a new 115v miller wire welder given the chance.

I have a Hobart 180 Handler Mig with gauges and argon bottle. It was my dad's that he bought probably 3 years before he past away. Needless to say it wasn't used much. Let me know if you are interested.

They aren't too terribly bad, I've used them before. They come in ALL kinds of configurations though and sold under different names on ebay.

Depending on budget, you can get a variety of things including a plasma cutter and tig all in one.

The one pictured doesn't appear to have AC, so aluminum is out of the question.

Hey, just a heads-up, if you are talking about the 20% off coupons in the magazine and paper ads they may not be willing to honor that. They have exclusions printed on them and welders are one of them.

Looking at one now it specifically excludes: Compressors, generators, tool cabinets, welders, floor jacks, Campbell Hausfeld Products and most major sales (like parking lot, day after thanksgiving, etc).

Just wanted to make sure you don't head all the way over based on the coupon only to be disappointed.

Brooks, the HF units will weld Aluminum. I have a customer who welds Aluminum with his all the time as well as other materials. If you want call me and you can swing by the shop and test drive my personal Tig 200 on some aluminum.
