  • Race Track Owner Plans to Build....

    Nurburgring clone in Nevada...

    http://wot.motortrend.com/race-track...da-178971.html

As a Mecca for car enthusiasts everywhere, Germany’s Nürburgring is a place many often dream about. Now, that dream may get a little closer, as Bruton Smith, CEO of Speedway Motorsports inc., has expressed interest in building an exact copy of the famed “Green Hell” just outside Nevada’s city of sin.

In an interview on Sirius XM Sports, Smith said his company has been asked by “some Germans” to duplicate the Nürburgring. The executive went on to say that he has the capability to take on such an ambitious project, and already has a meeting lined up with the Governor of Nevada. Smith also states he’s talked with the Nevada Bureau of Land Management, which reportedly owns the land where the site is to be built, about donating 8000 acres for the project.

The reasoning behind this proposed second Nürburgring, according to Smith, has to do with manufacturers wanting to test all year round. Being that the original ‘Ring sees a good deal of rain and snow, building one in the consistently dry desert climate of Nevada might solve that problem. Smith says the track would be located between five and 10 miles away from Las Vegas Speedway, likely well outside the city limits.

“If the state of Nevada…really wants it, then we’re going to go out there and we’re going to build a copy of the Nürburgring,” Smith told Sirius XM Sports in the interview.

Speedway Motorsports owns and operates eight race tracks, including Charlotte Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Infineon Raceway, and others. Though Smith is known for building race tracks, the Nürburgring copy would be used strictly for testing purposes, available to manufacturers and private individuals.

Right now, the whole thing sounds just a little too good to be true. But if somehow the planets align, and this track is actually built, we may have to give Speedway Motorsports a call to see if we can do some testing of our own on the new course.

Calls to the Nevada Governor’s office and Speedway Motorsports have not been returned.

Last time I checked Nevda is in a desert and Germany’s Nürburgring is no where close to one.

So if he wants to clone it, should have a better place with tons of tees

It would be awesome to have it, but it definitely needs to be somewhere else.

you guys are thinking southern Nevada.

Northern Nevada is pretty nice, not so much of a dessert like the south. I bet they are looking more to the central/north east part

They said they plan to build it 5-10 miles from Vegas.

                guess I missed that part.
oh you mean 5-10 miles from LV Speedway which is already 10+ miles from downtown out by Nellis AFB.

If it's state owned land, that would put them really close to the Lake Mead State Park if they go east of LV Speedway. I was thinking they'd head North for better weather, but close to Vegas makes sense for travel.

You guys are looking at this all wrong. I see a ton of positives, like no trees to run into and lots of prostitutes nearby.

we do well on rentals, but not that well. Owning a race track without a cup race in the united states is financial suicide. His shareholders and employees will not approve. this is as much bs as the austin f1 race
