Only way I'd give a crap about this is if I could drop a 20 at the entrance gate for one lap.

      Yep.

However...build that track and I will find a way to get my car on it!

Why make it a clone? Why not just poll the manufacturers/prospective customers and see what they want in a test track... Design it, then build that new design?

Cloning the Ring sounds about like hollywood remaking all these movies because they don't have any original ideas!

the car manufacturers have said they'd like access to the ring all year round, since it's subject to snow/ice/rain currently. building a replica in Nevada would give them access all year round. Spring/Summer in Germany, or Fall/Winter/Spring in Nevada

I understand the need for a year round test track. My question was more related to cloning the track exactly, as opposed to taking the best aspects of the best tracks around the world and designing something new.

there is nothing more bad ass than the ring. Its a bucket list item of mine to take a nice Porsche around it.

Because it is a benchmark everyone is familiar with.

Meant to ask, but I saw Foyt testing an Indycar at MSR Houston the other day, were you there?

And it would be impossible to configure the aspects of it any differently to make the new track unique?

Sorry, just sounds lazy and unimaginative to me.

It really is, as mentioned earlier, a benchmark among car manufacturers. For years they build new cars to test at the ring because its got everything really. Sure you could change it up a bit but if your changing something that has everything then essentially you're just rearranging it for no reason because it's already the benchmark.
