  • Kill two people? Get probation in Texas.

Something is seriously wrong with our courts. Reading the posts of his family celebrating on Facebook will really piss you off.

The guy was driving the wrong way down the hwy between Odessa and Midland and hit a car head on.

After more than two hours in deliberation, a jury sentenced Joel Tavarez, Jr. to probation for driving drunk and killing 21-year-old Jena Vela and 23-year-old Perry Jeffrey, Jr. and for seriously hurting their two kids that were in the car with them.

Too bad the dad wasn't prepared for a Samuel L. attack.

Damn, I'd like to hear the specifics of that case, the defense attorney must be a master of bullshit.

Why put yourself in a position to go to prison or the death penalty? it won't bring them back.

If the criminal courts don't do it, then go civil ala OJ and sue the fuck out of them. 10 years probation is gonna be plenty hard when you've lost everything.

Do you really think they'll get anything from that low life piece of crap? In most cases like this, a civil suit just means more expenditures and more pain for the victim. They relive all of it again just to get a verdict stating they're owed money from the defendant -- money that they'll probably never collect on. Oh, and to your point, a civil suit ruling won't bring them back either. The idea here is that justice should be served. In this instance, the courts failed. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else brought down their own fist of justice.

if the guy doesn't have anything (very likely), then a judgement isn't even worth the paper it's written on.

Maybe the father would only get probation if he murdered this scumbag.... If I was on the jury - that's what I would push for.

I would be REAL SURPRISED if something further happened to the guy who got probation.

People are generally rational, but cowards and only end up complaing about something in the end. The whole revenge thing is a bunch of emotional bluster "in the moment" and really only happens in the movies. Only when you have a severely unstable individual who will act on it will something happen - but it's not Dexter. its usually the innocents that get murdered.

Take the Westboro church - so many people talk about how someone shoudl just take them out and wipe them off the planet because they are wastes of oxygen, yet they continue to persist.

                        This is no different.
