I would just buy a cheap arc welder and start practicing. Unless you have a decent budget I'd wait on the MIG, TIG, wire fed type welding.

learn to arc weld first... I believe that you need to learn that before mig..

If you wan to play around with a welder and never have, go buy some scrap sheet metal and you can come give it a whirl with my welder

Litsed in order of difficulty ,gas oxy acetalyne welding, mig, arc , tig really depends what you want to weld. Mig can be used for many tasks like body panels, frame work etc , arc or stick welding is usually used in structural welding as in hanging iron in buildings because of its portability and penatration potential, tig is use a lot in chassis work , headers, frames Any were you need a small strong weld we're you can control the heat when needed( aluminum or stainless ) I've Ben welding and fabricating for over 20 + years so if you need pointer or any questions hit me up.

Mig is so easy i bet my wife could learn in a day or two.

Buy a welder, get some gas and go to town.

Stick welding isnt bad, but getting it to start can sometimes be a pain. You can weld some shit with stick.

On the farm we get by with a mig for most project's are repairs.

                  What he said.
I bought a millermatic 135 and picked up some scrap pieces of sheetmetal. By the end of the day my welds were decent enough to not be ashamed of and I had good penetration. The technique is nothing, it's just a matter of figuring out the heat and wire feed settings mostly.
If you plan on doing chassis work, I would recommend stepping up to a 220V machine for sure. Good luck!

I bought a 110 mig welder but using flux core wire and it's kinda difficult so I'm currently looking for a bottle to add gas so if anyone has a lead on a cheap one let me know

I was quoted 133 for 40lb bottle and 18 for gas fills.

adding a bottle wont help you weld better if you dont have the technique down. Gas is just a shield

Flux core is basicly like arc welding but with a mig machine. Gotta chip that slag off.

I'd say a bottle would help a beginner over flux.

With the gas i feel you get less splatter, and the noise will help you learn. Fry that bacon

Is mig really easier? When I learned, mig took me a lot longer to get than arc. And arc is by far my favorite method still...granted I don't weld much anymore.

My trouble learning to mig was freezing up the feed.

I remain piss poor at TIG.

I bought a customer owned 150cf 75/25 tank filled for 150 on craigslist with good date. If you go that route make sure its not a rental/stolen tank.
