  • Stupid craigslist scam

I'm selling an old IKEA Jerker desk on Craigslist for $100. I got an email yesterday, asking if I still have it. After replying I get this..

    Hello

Thanks for the swift response to my mail, as the item is still available, I will send a certified check to cover the cost of my purchase as am completely satisfied with the advert. I will need the details of whom & where to mail the draft. It will be delivered by the United Parcel Service within 2-3 days. Please note 'United Parcel Service' do not deliver to P.O.Box addresses.

    1. Name to be on the check
    2.Home address
    3.Mobile #

Kindly delete the advert on Craig's List as am totally committed to buying from you to save me cost, My mover will be coming over for the pick up right only after the payment as been delivered and I want you to understand that, I would have love to call but am a deaf , So please send me an email only.

    Thanks for your time
Obvious CL scammer, right? But it amazes me that they are trying to scam me out of a cheap ass desk.. Really?

I use CL on occasion to add to my guitar collection, and it's funny how few people think I'm for real. I guess the number of scams is so high, a lot of people are really leery about the validity of an offer of any kind.

It's educational to the unknowing. If a post keeps someone from getting ripped off, I say keep them coming.

I get those for $35 items. It got to a point where I would reply with "The item fell and killed a pregnant Nigerian woman."

One used the name Donald Duke. Since they referred to "the item"' I knew it was a scam. I replied to the email with "Quack, quack". I still got an email similar to the one posted. Amazing.

I learned a long time ago, if posting something on CL, to set up another email account other than my primary. That way I dont have to worry about getting alot of spam in my primary email.

Anyone else got the really strange one about how they find you interesting and want to go on a date with you. I got one a while back and then my mom got one yesterday about a tractor she is selling. She is old and was really freaked out because they had her name. We finally tracked it down to a response she had sent where her name was in the sig of her email. I would like to do harm to scammers.
