Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I switch people back daily from VOIP service to Landlines, there a lot of people who say they miss a lot of calls, they just never ring on the VOIP line. The bad thing is traditional POTS lines are going away by 20/20 and everyone will have to go to VOIP or 4g/LTE service.
I see people with Life alerts on VOIP, I don't like this idea simply because you may have to reboot the router to make a call occasionally. If you need to hit the button for help what are you going to do say Time out gotta reboot my VOIP router so I can call for help?
Ankle bracelets also require a POTS line simply because a VOIP modem can be used anywhere.

I had a $30 Verizon bill for a no-frills land line. Then they decided to bump it up to $60. So, got my ISP to hook up the VOIP line for $25 adder to my internet.
Originally posted by bard View PostADT now offers cellular monitoring, but look into Smith Thompson. They're usually cheaper for the same service. With ST the cellular module is a one time $89 fee and monitoring is $17/mo.
So, not a total net win. I did have to pay for the ADT installation, but the VOIP phone is free continental long distance and at the time, my internet was bumped to the "fast" 50mbps, which is now standard.
The wife likes having the "landline", which is the only reason I'm keeping. She does use it more than me, and she doesn't want to hassle giving people both our cell numbers should we drop it."Self-government won't work without self-discipline." - Paul Harvey

We have one over at my Mom's house next door.. bare minimum package with AT&T is still 33.xx per month, but my Mom still uses it occasionally...
No land lines here in our home at all. I've considered a VOIP but our internet connection is so pitiful, it would be hit and miss at the very best.

I carried a pager which had voicemail. You'd get a page with your own number so you'd have to call yourself, enter a PIN to listen to your message and then put in another quarter to call the person back. My nephew had a text pager though and I thought it was awesome.
I still keep a home phone but it's with an obitalk device and uses Anveo for the VOIP part. I think it's $29 a year, it was free when I had the box setup for Google Voice but they planned on shutting down the service so I paid for a provider. There isn't anything plugged into the telco's box from inside my house.
