  • Shooter Who Stopped Robbery Wants Gun Back

The man who shot a would-be robber at a grocery store is upset police won't give him his gun back.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney cleared Nazir Al-Mujaahid of any criminal wrongdoing.

Al-Mujaahid fired inside the Milwaukee Aldi on Jan. 30th.

Police took his gun during the investigation.

Al-Mujaahid said three times he's asked police to return the weapon.

"Not only is it frustrating -- it's disheartening, because now I'm feeling like the legal system is coming down on me for some reason," Al-Mujaahid said.

In a statement, Milwaukee Police spokeswoman Anne Schwartz wrote, "Milwaukee Police continue to investigate the armed robbery of a north side grocery store on Jan. 30, 2012.

The robbery suspects were arrested and charged. A customer who discharged his personal firearm and struck one of the suspects was cleared by the DA's office in the shooting.

The gun used by that customer is still considered evidence in the armed robbery case."

I didn't read the article, but evidence that is returnable (not seized) is usually given back after the case is done with.

Right. And meanwhile, the shooter wasn't charged but is forced to be unarmed and helpless against possible revenge from dickwad's friends because the police just won't return the citizen's firearm.

I have a feeling it'll be returned after the robbery case is settled. I'd like to follow up on this one.

There's no reason for his gun to be used as evidence if he isn't being charged for a crime.

Where is the story about the old man who owned the scrap yard in Ft Worth that shot/killed a burglar. He was out the next day buying a new shotgun from Academy when that bitch reporter (who the internet banned together and got fired) cornered in the parking lot.

Same, same, popo took his gat.

Can you file the removal of property (aka the firearm seized/whateva) with homeowners. "Dear mr. policeman, State Farm bought me a new one, you can keep it"
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Being used as a display in guns involved in violent crimes removed from the streets.....just twisted the wrong way.

                I don't recall that story.

Which could take months, years or who knows how long because the police are in no hurry to return the citizen's property

If it is a justified shoot, there is no reason for the cops to take your gun. Period.

I.E: kick in my door, I shoot, why take my gun? BS it is.

Fuck that practice, it's wrong and there is no way to paint it as just.

Bottom line is that the cops don't like anyone but themselves to have guns.

Even when a cop shoots someone they take his gun as evidence.

Thank you for that Brad, did not know that. Figured they got to keep it, since they're "on the team".

                          Good to know though...

A little different, but along the same lines. I had a cell phone taken from me for "evidence". It was decided that it had no use in the case. It was never used as evidence, and the case was eventually dismissed. This was something like three years ago. They still have that cell phone.

Seriously, who only has one gun? Can we get a poll on this?
