  • passing your car on to your kid

The guy looking for his car in the Garage forum got me thinking. Do you guys think you have a current car you want to pass on to your kids? Like I said in his thread, I don't know if my 86 GT can make it to 14 or 15 years when its time for my son to start driving.

I think it would be cool as hell if it was his first car, since it was my first car. I bet a 40 year old Mustang will still be cool to drive by then.

The thing is, I just don't see me dragging this car around my life for another 14 years.

Do you guys have a car waiting for your kids?

Nope. I'm not handing a 69 mustang to my kid for a first car. I kicked around the idea of keeping my vert around, and swapping in an auto for my daughter, but x'ed that idea too.

Save it for him, there's no telling what cars will be like in 15 years.

I had plans of keeping my Super Coupe and doing just that with it, provided I ever have kids anyway. Since my SC decided to be a monster pain in the ass, it's being sold.

Well TBH, we are talking about an 1986 GT not a 69. I don't think the two really compare. The 69's are on a whole other level of cool in my eyes. We are talking about a fox body that probably still won't be worth shit by then.

I just keep thinking back to how cool it was to drive a classic while in high school. Classics always stand out. Granted its an 86 mustang, but it will be "classic" by then.

                My vert was an 86.

My kids will be in an economical 4 cyl when that time comes - even if I had a cool hand me down they'd get it when they were older.

I would like to start building a car with them at a young age and then let them have it when they turn 18. At least that way they had a couple years to get all the wrecks out of their system hopefully
