I have a Maytag, i've had problems with it since I bought it. Of course it was the biggest and most expensive at the time, but I know now that does not matter.

I was at Home Depot a few weeks back and it seems that Whirlpool is made in America and they had a little AD up that stated how many Americans stay employed when you buy a Whirlpool refrigerator. It will probably be my next fridge, there were some nicer ones but whatever I can do for my country to leep my fellow peeeps holding a job will work for me next time.

GE of course makes GE, they also make Whirlpool and Hotpoint. There are reliability differences between the three. I believe Whirlpool is the flagship of their line.

Ive been researching also and they all seem to suck. In our last house we had Whirlpool Gold and had to replace the ice maker after 5 years. For our new house my wife wants a french door.

Kenmore Elite here, no issues going on 4 years next month. I will say I have had family/friends that bought LG and were screwed on repairs after 1 year. My mom paid $2800 for an LG that stopped cooling after 14 months. She ended up with a Whirlpool.

It's very close to that model number. The GSS22W part of the model number is the same, but the last three are a little different as I recall. I'll look later.
I bet it's nearly the same. Same PCB anyway. The repairmen would jokingly say "This fridge line keeps us in the repair business."

Ours came with the house when it was built. The first time I had the heater element replaced I called a repairman and watched what he did, and it looked fairly easy so I knew where to look for the source of the problem this time and did it myself. GE must have known there was an ongoing issue with this part because they sent an $80 refund (unsolicited) the first time, and now I see the heater module this last time at least appears to have been upgraded.

Have not had much luck with Maytag appliances either. Hell, none of the appliances I buy (large ones) hold up all that well in my opinion.

Seems the ice doesn't freeze completely before it dumps, causing a lot of water build up in the bottom of the ice bin, which then freezes, which means the auger won't turn as it should. Minor annoyances, really. I've got a filter on the faucet, so I don't 'need' the dispenser on the fridge, but it would be nice to have. The build up/auger deal is easy to deal with, I just dump the bin, run hot water through it until it all melts, and put it back in. Have to do this about once a quarter.

Other than that, no issues. It's probably 6-7 yrs old at this point, and has never gone down.
Remove the water line buttconnecter under freezer door and stick a piece of weedeater line up inside the water line this should keep the line from freezing.

GE's have a common issue with the main control board going out.

Relay on compressor is probably gone. Put a hot start kit on the compressor.

Just to let you all know, none of the appliances out there are any good. Most appliances these days won't last past 5 years. The older appliances will last the longest, so get them fixed before buying a new appliance.

Best refrigerator is a Subzero. It will cost you around $7000.
