I have zero kids, but thanks for warning me on baseball.. that shit is expensive.
I remember wakling through Dicks sporting goods to get to the mall and i saw a bucket of baseballs and it was like 59.99 ? Jesus.. I'd just go to our park and look in the creeks for some old baseballs. True DFW Baller <----Originally posted by 03trubluGTYour opinion is what sucks.

If you get him this hat, it will last him till he's 80.
But good luck with all that. My brother played AAU basketball around '98 and i remember my dad having to work a lot of overtime to pay off everything for him.
AAU basketball now is a lot more convenient than the late 90's.Originally posted by 03trubluGTYour opinion is what sucks.

growing up playing every sport in little league i would say it doesn't matter so much which bat and glove you get him. The kids who had the best of everything hardly made it from what i saw. I would say invest in that stuff once he is on a club style team instead of a public style rec league. just my .021993 Vibrant Red Cobra #1741.
If you want more inches - Stroke it!!!

This is for the younger kiddos. Mine's 6 and in coach pitch, t ball ball (so soft balls). He was struggling swinging the bat (dipping his hands, just dropping the bat, not smooth). I bought him the lightest legal bat ($40 for a tball bat!) and it's vastly improved his swing (and confidence). I think a lot of it is knowing your kid.

Oh, and I'd argue that he new DeMarini CF5 is the hottest bat out right now for a kid with the bat speed to swing it. My 8 year old hit a ball through the middle this past weekend with it that was never higher than 2 feet off the ground and almost hit a 190' fence on the fly. That bat is nuts. Oh, and if you're playing competitive tournament baseball, then you'll need the BB bats. The exceptional kid can still use a small bat and excel, but again he's the exception. FWIW, I prefer everyone use wood. We spend a ton of time with our kids hitting with wood bats and always play a few wood bat tournaments each year.Last edited by davbrucas; 03-08-2012, 10:11 AM.

I am going through the same thing. my son is (10) 5'1 110. I bought him a wood bat for the cages, and wood bats are heavier. For game and practice I bought him the Easton Omen 31/19 -12, 2 piece composite. Has major pop BUT it is to light for him. I had him use a 31/21 and he is killing the ball (3) home runs. Also he has never played a day in his life.
I buy all my bats from justbats.com. I just bought him another Easton aluminum bat.
This sport is not cheap, but I knew that going into it. I am wiling to spend whatever it takes for what he needs. Just remember when they are this young, keep it fun for them.
Oh and my son is in LL and Big Barrel bats are not legal.

Well my son is 4'3" as are most the kids on his team. Kinda funny we had a height measuring of the whole family last night.
With his weight and height he should be swinging a 29"/18oz bat. He has a 27"/16oz. We will be replacing the bat and glove this weekend for sure!
