school me on choosing an electric company

WTF, i had no idea there were so many choices. So i go to www.powertochoose.com to pick which company to go with and it shows me a ton of companies, plans, rates, and length of term, etc... Usually i would just pick the cheapest rate, but obviously there has to be more to it since there are so many choices. Any tips on what to look for and how to pick one ?

i was with txu since i moved in but i had a friend that used texas power and after hearing about it i switched 3 days later and save a ton. txu $0.14 texas power was $0.08 kwh

I've been really happy with StarTex - currently at 0.05kwH

Rates do change all the time though so make sure you get locked in.

check with startex...i've been using them for quite some time, and i believe that they're in th .08 per kw/h for a year contract.

I've had good luck with Gexa Energy. Found them on powertochoose a few years back. No problems thus far. $.075 kWh on the Green - 100% Wind plan.

Been with Startex almost two years and no issues what so ever. Be sure before you choose the plan to look at the fine print. Some of the companies offer you the lower rate but have a minimum KW usage per month to get that rate.

Make sure there is no minimum usage requirement , some are 1000kwh some are 2000kwh . And ask what misc fees will be applied to the bill .

That's good to hear. We bought some land and have been dealing with coserve over 2 months to get power ran 600' so we can start our house.

One of those misc fees might be called something like a "base customer charge" that's added when usage drops below a minimum threshold such as 1000 kWh as posted above.

Also look for a provider that charges the same rate if possible regardless of the kWh used.
