They do use the ATT towers so it will be just like having ATT...just cheaper.......BUT there are all kinds of problems with ST that you aren't hearing about....do a little research before you make this mistake...or at least be prepared for it when shit does go wrong. I did this last summer and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. This is a Florida based company that has MANY pending class-action lawsuits against it, and tens of thousands of complaints filed not only with the BBB but also with several states attorney generals. I can't possibly explain all the problems....get on the internet and read up. The company is also known as Net 10, and a few other names across the country. I can tell you from personal experience that the complaints are not false...some VERY LUCKY people have been able to use the service without issue..but a LOT more people have had horrible problems. I am still waiting for a refund of over $150 dollars from them...and its been over 6 months. Good luck.

My sister and I both have straight talk. She has the Samsung Smart Phone, I have the cheap $30 phone. She gets reception fine, I barely get any. She has good voice quality, I don't. She couldn't be happier and I am cancelling mine.

ram57ta - are they worst problem than ATT? Sometimes people endure problems from a big company and flip out when it's just some smaller company.

for the most part your experience is keeping me from joining. if i transfer my number and they "lose it" and there is nothing they can do i will cause enough damage on their capital until i feel we are even.

In MY opinion....FAR worse...in fact I have never dealt with a more shady cell phone provider (I used to sell phones for Metrocel back in the mid 90's and for Southwestern Bell when analog was still king), and since digital came out I've used Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, Cingular, Nextel, Verizon, and am now back with Sprint. Do a search and you can probably find my post in a previous thread about Straight Talk to read more details about my experience. I am not alone in what happened in my case....there are THOUSANDS of others who went thru similar ordeals with them and their other brand names all over the country. I have read that if you buy a phone DIRECTLY thru Walmart that your experience might be better..but thats not guaranteed. I bought mine directly from Straight Talk online. I had the phone for 2 weeks...it worked for only 2 days. If they didn't actually answer the phone I would say they don't even HAVE customer service...not that the customer service number accomplishes anything other than running your battery down..because you will spend THAT MUCH time on hold...or being transferred from one person to the next. I HIGHLY suggest you spend a little time on the internet searching for reviews and complaints about them...you will find they are pretty much the lowest rated provider around. I could accept that maybe my case was out of the ordinary if it wasn't for all the other cases of similar trouble I found by doing just basic searches...or the fact that there are multiple class-action lawsuits being filed by several AG's around the country. Maybe you'll be one of the people who never has a problem..and go for it if you wanna take that chance...there is no contract afterall. Its your money. Im on a family plan now with Sprint...and I have FAR better service than I did with Straight-Talk...and I pay HALF what Straight Talk charged.
