You blaming the bike or your own self control?

People around you. I'm pretty sure that I'd be ok, in that I never even once had a close encounter with the car I just sold, and it was pretty damned quick. It's just that a high percentage of the bike mishaps that you hear of happened due to the other people on the road.

That said, you are right that this one occurrence was the fault of the rider.

The point is that when something happens on a bike, your odds are a great deal slimmer...

Shit happens real quick on a bike and it doesn't take much to ruin a rather good day. A lot of accidents on bikes are due to negligence.

About 2 years ago a guy split his skull in two in front of my dads house. I am talking 20 feet from his front door... He had a kid on the way and was selling his bike. The guy was coming over later that evening to pick it up so the at the time owner took it out for one last spin, literally. My dad lives on a pretty busy street but limit is 30 mph. At the time my dad was on the can and heard this bike whinding through the gears, it stopped, and then picked back up. Probably 2 seconds later he heard a loud pop. He runs outside sees the bike down the street, his eyes start tracing back to in front of him and 15 feet in front is the guy, or atleast whats left of him in a culvert.

That dude also had a wife and kid on the way too. I recite that story in my head a lot. I will still ride but it keeps me from doing anything stupid. The split second you know you fucked up on a bike is probably the last memory you will have.

When I moved here from Colorado I had a bike I left in Colorado. My first day here I saw a guy weaving traffic on hwy 30, next thing I see is his head in his helmet, about 50 feet from his body. Hit the guardrail or something and decapitaed himself. I called my parents and told them to sell my bike, never rode in Texas. Too many crazy drivers here!

                RIP Henry.

If that's the case you are far better off on a sport bike than a cruiser for maneuverability sake. During daylight I always ride with the bright light on. It has helped tremendously with not getting cut off by the clueless.

At least they wear helmets. I went to fl to visit family and out of 30 or so bikers maybe one or two had a helmet on....

I'll admit, when I rode, maybe %60 of the time I had a helmet on. Went on a lot of rides up in the mountains and only wore sun glasses. This was in the early 80's tho, so it was safer back then, LOL!

Yeah but wearing one 60% of the time it works all the time...

Interesting viewpoint, and I see it. Hadn't really looked at it from that perspective, and had been leaning more towards a cruiser were I to do it...

Dammit but I want a street bike!

Compromise and get a standard bike. This is what I have:

Only gripe I have are the blingdiggity mufflers, however I don't feel like dropping 500 to 1000 on new ones.
Only problem with these bikes is they are targeted for old people going through mid-life crisis, like me...

Just read about a guy cruising down Main St. in GP over the weekend who was killed when an uninsured/unlicensed driver suddenly turned right in front of him. He blamed the "sun".....
