Tulsa will be laying off 2100 people which is 40% of its work force. AA is also shutting down AFW in Fort Worth. AA is wanting to outsource all of its heavy maintenance to overseas maintenance sites. No way I'm going to work for a company that doesn't care about its employees. So adiĆ³s AA!!!

I'll be working on corporate jets in Tucson. Non-union and the starting pay will be 20% more then I'm getting now. Plus they pay for school so I can go back to college and get a degree.

Where do you work? I thought you worked for AA in Tulsa also???

I've rented them 3 different times for military moves. I've usually rented the longest ones and towed a car trailer with them and still pulled down 10 or 12 MPG with the diesel models.

I was always more impressed with Penske over Uhaul they seem to keep up with maintenance on their trucks way better and I've never rented one with more 50k miles on it.

Wat? Air brakes are more efficient loaded vs. Unloaded.

Air Brakes aren't a big deal really just know that the feel is different and keep an eye on the air gauge if you are doing a lot of braking. If you loose air pressure you don't go out of control with no brakes. The system uses air pressure to release the brakes when the pressure is released the brakes engage. So if you get an air leak in the system and the air tank drains dry the truck will simply stop.

I'm not saying they're shitty, I'm saying to just start breaking a lot sooner. If you have to slam on them you're going to burn them up.

if you have a air leak there is a buzzer that goes off before it gets to the point of locking up

like any drum brakes, they will heat up and hold the heat.. once them suckers get hot you will know it

Brake lag, when you hit them it takes what seems like a long time to apply. And most states require air brake endorsement class b also. Some states love to see them come in to the scales. $$$$

this doesn't apply to rental trucks, though (I'm pretty sure)....when I was a delivery driver at Lowes, we had to rent these trucks whenever one of ours was in the shop. I was the only driver who had a Class A CDL, everyone else only had Class C licenses....no problems

True as long as its licensed for 26.000 lbs or more you do. Less than 25.999 don't need one. Thats why most license them to 24k.

I rented a 24ft diesel from Budget to move to CA last Nov. It topped out at 75MPH, even going downhill.

I'm not positive, but I think if it has air brakes you have to have a Class B with an airbrake endorsement to drive it regardless of what it is registered for. We have a couple trucks that are under 26k but have air brakes and when the DOT pulls them over they treat them just like the trucks that are over 26k.

You can get your Class A in a 1 ton with a HD gooseneck, but not have an air brake endorsement to drive a truck with air brakes.
