  • Here's your tip: Get a real job.

lolz, what a peckerwood. A lot of heresy in here, but at least it's entertaining.

Just when you may have thought the ongoing battle between the 99% and the 1% was dying down, it may have been reignited. A wealthy banker left a $1.33 tip on a $133 lunch at the True Food Kitchen restaurant in Newport Beach, California.

To add insult to injury the word "tip" was circled on the receipt, and the banker wrote "get a real job" on the bill. The picture of the receipt was taken and uploaded to the blog Future Ex-Banker by a person who was dining with the anonymous banker. As expected, the blog received a lot of attention and has now been taken down. The author of the blog wrote, "mention the 99% in my boss' presence and feel his wrath. So proudly does he wear his 1% badge of honor that he tips exactly 1% every time he feels the server doesn't sufficiently bow down to his holiness."

People online who had a chance to see the blog post before it went offline and those who have been made aware of it on social media outlets are outraged. One person called the tip a "tale of greed and contempt," and another referred to it as "arrogance personified." The Web's general reaction to this story is eerily similar to an almost identical 1% vs. 99% scenario that took place last fall. In Washington state, a waitress received a tip of no money and advice scrawled on the receipt that told her she could "stand to lose a few pounds."

I did that $hit at Hooters one time. Waitress spent the whole night talking to her buddies and other waitress' on the other side of the establishment...could clearly see her. We basically had to flag down anyone who walked by our table just to get service...

When it came time to give her a tip, I stated that she should talk less and focus more on working...didn’t feel bad then, don’t feel bad now.

I've had service that justified that kind of tip.

I've only done it once, but even if I get terrible service I'll tip 2%. I've been a server and I know that most places have you tip 1% to the bar and 1% to the bus, thats based on total sells. No matter how bad the service is the server shouldn't have to pay for my meal. The only time I did it I wrote a little note to let her know that while I might be an asshole, I am not a cheap ass, had she done her job even reasonably well she'd have gotten an automatic 20%, but since she was rude and completely unaware she got reimbursed, but that's it.

I think everyone has at some point received terrible service worthy of not only NO tip...but likely a refund, BUT..........this country is full of arrogant assholes who do shit like that to people who DO work their asses off and do a good job...its like spitting on them and saying I'm better than you. Most waiters and waitresses bust their ass and get paid and treated like shit. I always tip well because I've been on the receiving end before and I know what its like.

Gotta have someone to wait tables, run garbage, cut yards, run recycling and water treatment plants.

My guess is the guy got really shitty service and is saying she/he needs to find a new job they can actually perform. But with the atmosphere going on in the US everyone is going to think they were slamming this waiter for having a shitty job or something.

All we see is a picture of a receipt and that's it. We have neither story really just what everyone else wants to see.

Worst tip I've ever left, and the worst I feel you can leave, .01 The server BLEW! I've only tipped that much once.

He could have at least rounded correctly for the 1% tip.

Only time I've ever not tipped was at Hooters in Grapevine. I really should have gotten a free meal out of it, but instead, I paid for the crappy food and wrote her a note telling her why she didn't get a tip. I don't think she really cared; it wasn't like she actually waited on us at all.

I've waited tables before, helped me get thru college. I spent a good 6 years doing it and still remember what getting a shitty tip feels like when you bust your ass. I've seen more than enough servers who don't give 2 shits about their job or their customers and deserve to be taken out back for an attitude adjustment. They give servers a bad name and instigate behavior like this.

If the back story is true and the guy who paid the tab tipped 1% simply because he thinks it's funny to fuck with the "99%", he's an absolute idiot. Perpetuating stereotypes and renewing rifts... way to help things smooth over.

Sorry I'm in the industry (not on the server side) and if he felt the service was that bad he should've tipped $0.00 and explained to the manager why..

Also being in the restaurant biz, I dont think every server should get 30-50% tips unless the service/food/drinks were above par and were kept coming until the customer said they were done..(assuming they had perfect servive and their dining experience was above par.. that being said 20% is fine too)

I'm also saying that that a 15-20% if more than fine unless the service was bad and then i think 10% is acceptable..

Waiting tables is a "real job" and good ones make decent money.. Lazy ones who want to leave early, have a dry attitude, and give shitty service make shit.. The ones that stick around and dont want to be 1ST cut and stick around and hustly make good money!

I've seen servers/bartenders make between $5bucks-$600 in a day it really depends on how hard you wanna work.. (600 is high and doesnt happen often)

                          just my .02
                          "PSH!!!"

I got horrible service at Taco Diner last week. It took around 40 minutes for us to get our food. The guy got a big zero for a tip from me. My coworkers all tipped him something out of sympathy. I don't do that shit.
